Drawer/Lgs.
In the illustrated shoe A the Welt 3 3 terminates at a point slightly in advance ot the breast the heel B.
The upper materials Al are cut of a length sufiicient to lill the flat space or area C shown in Fig. l) upon which the heel B to be mounted (as shown in Fig'. 2
`While I have illustrated the upper materials l as out to meet at a median line in the area C, it is not` necessary that they be so out, as their line of meeting need not be centrally located and need not be straight. My invention is present Wherever the upper materials are cut to lill 'the area C, and their meeting Serial No. 85 857 er may be curved or irregular'. and may be transverse or ob ique With reference to the length oi" the shoe. all as may be desired by the manufacturer with regard to economy ol' the upper materials.
By the te" upper materials7 as employed herein, I ret r to such layers of material as embrace the counter above the level of the shoe-heel, and are customarily so trimmed as not to till the heel-area C, but so as to leave an unfilled snaee within that heel-area C which must be Vlilled With some reinforcing material to prevent the clipping of the heelreceiving area oi the shoe.
The heel-area filling materials 4l are secured in place to form a substantially fiatsurface above the heel B by means of nails 5 or other suitable fastening means.
