Description

A. MADSON.
DIE FOR SHOE SOLES.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 7. 1920.
Patented-June 6, 1922,
UNITED STATES AMOS MADSON, 0F PONTIAC. ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO NOR AY WELT SHOE 061820-- PATENT OFFICE RATION, OF WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, A GORPORATI N OF DELAWARE DIE FOR srron SOLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 6,
Application filed May 7, 1920. Serial No. 379,498.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMosMAosoN, a subject of the King of Norway, and residing at Pontiac, in the county of Livingston, State of Illinois, have invented the new and useful Improvement in Dies for Shoe Soles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to dies and more particularly to dies for shoe soles.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide adie adapted to form a marginal recess at the heel of the sole'in order to form the heel seat.
Another object is to provide a die adapted to form not only a marginal recess at the heel but also a marginal lip along the sole art. Further objects will appear from the detail description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of a die embodying this invent-ion;
Figure 2 is a bottom view showing the cutting edge;
rigure 3 is a perspective view of another die embodying this invention;
Figure 4 is a bottom view showing the cutting edge; and,
Figure 5 is a plan of the sole. 7
Referring now to the accompanying drawing, and more particularly to Figure 5, the shoe sole 1 is to be formed-with a die embodying the invention as shown. This shoe sole has a marginal recess at the heel to form a heel seat 2 of reduced width, while the fore part which forms the shoulders 3 will have a marginal lip or extension 4 for the attachment of the upper thereto.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, the die 10 is provided with an arcuate part which is beveled inwardly to provide an inner cutting edge 11 and with outwardly extending parts which are beveled outwardly to provide outer cutting edges 12, the body of the die being recessed as shown at 13 so as to leave a bridge 14 connecting the outwardly extending parts and providing for strength of the die, at the same time leaving the desired cutting edge. This die is arranged to be used in any suitable press, the leather to be out being placed on the table and the die being placed on the leather to be struck by the beam of the press. This form of die is adapted to be used more particularly for soles which have been previously died out and this die, therefore, forms the marginal recess at the heel, the arcuate part 11 of the cutting edge forming the arcuate contour of the .heel, while the "outwardly extending parts 12 form the shoulders 3; these outwardly extending parts 12 are, of course, of suflicient length to sever completely through to the edges of the sole at the breast.
Referring now to Figures 3 aud t, the die 20 has a cutting edge comprising an arcuate part 21 for the toe, an arcuate part 22 for the heel, web parts 23 connecting with the arcuate part 21, and outwardly extending parts 24 connecting the arcuate part 22 with the web part 23. This die is also arranged to be used in an ordinary press but in this case is adapted for dieing out complete a sole from the hide or blocked out blanks. die, the arcuate part 21 and the web parts 23 will contour the fore part, the arcuate part 22 will contour the heel, while the outwardly extending'parts will form the shoulders 3. The die is, therefore, adapted to form a sole with the marginal recess at the heel and with a marginal lip extending around the fore part.
It is obvious that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of this invention; it is to be noted, therefore, that this invention is not to be limited to the specific details shown and described.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. A die for shoe soles, comprising, an arcuate part and outwardly extending parts at the ends of and integral with said arcuate part, said arcuate part being beveled inwardly to provide an inner cutting edge and said outwardly extending parts being beveled outwardly to provide outer cutting edges.
2. A die for shoe soles, comprising, an arcuate part, outwardly extending parts at the ends of and integral with said arcuate part, and a bridge connecting said outwardly extending parts, said arcuate part being beveled inwardly to provide an inner cutting With this edge and said outwardly extending parts eled inwardly to provide an inner cutting being beveled outwardly to provide outer edge, said outwardly extending parts being 10 cutting edges. beveled outwardly to provide outer cutting 3. A die for shoe soles, comprising, an edges, and. said bridge being recessed from arcuate part, outwardly extending parts" at the ends of said arcuate parts. 7
