This invention relates to improvements in burner holders in the class used for cutting otl pipe at various angles for making joints.
The objectof the invention is to provide means for holding an orgy-acetylene torch on the outside of a pipe to be cut, and means for turning the torch around the pipe at various angles.
Another object of the invention is to provide a burner holder adapted to cut pipe of small diameter at any desired angle.
Another object is to provide means to keep the burner tip spaced the required distance from the pipe. that is provide automatic means to cause the burner to follow the ellipse 'when cutting on an angle. I
Other objects of theinvention will be apparent as the description proceeds.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accoimianying drawings in which the same reference numeral is ap lied to the same portion throughout the several figures of the drawings and of which there may be modifications.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the holder showing it mounted on a portion of a pipe to be cut,
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the View shown in Figure 1,
Figure 3 is an end view of a pipe section with the burner holder mounted thereon,
Figure 4 is aplan of a cam ring adapted to maintain a set distance of the burner tip from the pipe, and
Figure 5 is a'sectional View of a portion of the ring housing showing a number of the cam rings and the gear rings, and a portion of the burner arm pivot and cam follower.
The numeral 1 indicates the main body of the ring housing: and 2 the annular flange thereon; 3 is a ring plate having a flange 4 adapted to fit over the flange 2 and slide freely thereon; 5 is a retaining ring held inplace by the screw 6. The flanges 2 3' slide one on the other to form a 'dust proof joint.
Mounted on the body 1 is the segment of a circle 7 having its center at 8 in line with the burner tip. rivets on screws 9 hold the plate in place. The plate has the flange 10 projecting in'a groove 11 in a bracket 12. the top of which is flush with the top of the plate and has the clips 18 and 11 projecting over the plate edge and they are held in place by bolts 15 and 16. Two horizontal rods 17 and 18 are fixed in the bracket 12. Slidable on these rods are the brackets 19 and '20 having the central hubs 21 and 22 through which the vertical rods 23 and 2t are slidable. Set screws 25 and 26 are adapted to hold therods in adjusted positions;
On the lower end of these rods and integral therewith are the V shapecl yokes 27 and 28 adapted to rest on thepipe and center .the ring housing. Chains 29 and 30, are provided to holdthe yokes in place.
Mounted on the housing 1 is the internal spur gear ring *51 which is held in place by the screws as shown at 32. In mesh with the gear is the pinion 33 which is mounted on the shaft 31 projecting through the: plate 3, and having the worm gear 35 fixed on the outer end of the shaft. A worm 36 is in mesh with the 'worm gear and is fixed to a shaft 37 which has the bearings 38 and 39 attached to the plate 3. i i

The tip "holder arm 41 is fixed on the shaft 42 means of the set screw 43. This shaft projects into the housing more or less as desired and has thefollower 4;: on the inner end which can be. made to rest on any one of the series of cam rings 45 in the housing and held in alignment by thescrew -16.
The inside of each of'the cams is ane llipse which may be made to correspond with the ellipse of the angle on which the pipe is to be cut. The shaft 42 may have marks thereon so that it can be pushed in so the follower will bear on a certain ring to correspond to the required angle.
Any number of the cam rings may be-used providing an. adequate housing to receive them. The burner ti is indicated at 41, and the gas tubes at 42 The spring 44 acts to keep the follower on the cam.
,In operation the housing rin is placed over the pipe with the V shaped yo es on the pipe and fastened by means of the chains.
The burner is connected to a surce of gas and the housing ring set by means of the scale 48 on the bracket 12, and clamped in place by.the clips 13 and 14. The shaft- 42- Having thus described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows, but modifications may be made in carrying out the invention as shown in the drawings and in the above particularly described form thereof within the purview of the annexed claims.
1. A burner holderof the class described comprising a fixed ring, a rotatable'ring comprising a fixed ring, a rotatable ring mounted on said fixed ring, a torch holder projecting from the side of said rotatable ring, a segment plate projecting from said fixed ring on the opposite side from said torch holder, a curved flange projecting downward from said plate, a bracket having a groove adapted to receive said flange and allow it to turn therein, means to mount said bracket on a pipe to be cut whereby'said rings will be placed concentric of said pipe, and means to rotate said rotatable ring with the burner holder thereon.
3. A burner holder of the classdescribed comprising a pair of V shaped yokes, means 'to hold said yokes on a pipe to be cut, vertical rods on said yokes, brackets having vertical hubs to adjustably hold said rods, horizontal hubs on said brackets adapted to adjustably receive a pair of horizontal rods, a bracket on the ends of said horizontal rods, a circular groove in said bracket, a segment of a circle plate having a'depending flange adapted to fit into said groove, clips for holding said plate in said groove in adjustable positions, a ring fixed to said segment plate, an annular flange on said ring, a rotatable ring adapted to fit over said flange, a flat ring adapted to hold said rings together, a burner holder on said rotatable ring, the circle of which said groove is a segment having its center in the plane of rotation of said burner holder, and meansto rotate said rotatable ring.

A burner holder of the class described comprising a fixed ring, means to mount said ring concentric to a pipe to be cut, means to set said ring at diflerent angles, a rotatable ring mounted on said fixed ring, an arm pivoted on said rotatable ring, a burner holder on the end of said arm, a burner in said holder, a spring bearing on said arm to hold said burner in contact with said pipe, a shaft for said arm, a follower on said shaft, a series of cams attached to said fixed ring, the inside of each cam being an ellipse to correspond to the ellipse of a certain angle on which said pipe may be cut, said follower being adapted to contact with any one of said cams, whereby the burner will automatically adjust itself to the difi'erent cutting ellipses, and means to rotate said rotatable ring.
