SALES CHART.
Application filed April 22,
lt is the object of my invention to provide novel means to enable a customer to select goods to be ordered and to fill an order slip held in association with designations of the goods on sale, and so arranged as to remind the customer of goods desired.
It is the obj ect of my invention furtherto provide a chart comprising a foldable strip, having thereon a representation of a store and the designation of goods tolbe found in the store, and a pad-holder depending therefrom upon which the designation of goods on the strip may be written by the customer while viewing said designations, and, further, to so construct and arrange the parts of the device as to form a package of the same for permitting the same to be forwarded to the customer by messenger, in the mail, or by other desirable carrying means.
In carrying out my invention, the store supplies my improved devices to its custcmers, instanced as householders, so that the householder has before her in convenient arrangement designations of the goods sold by the store, and a pad in association therewith, so that she may write on the uppermost slip in the pad the names and quantities of goods desired, and so that she is reminded of goods desired by perusal of the chart in association with the pad. The store is exemplified as a grocery store, but is not limited to a store for the sale of such character of merchandise. The chart comprises a main section, from which wings extend laterally having thereon the designations of goods sold by the store, which design ations may be pictorial or literal, and from which a section depends having on it the order pad.
My improved device is shown in the accompanying drawings, in. which Fig. 1 is a rear elevation of my improved device in spread form, and partly broken away.

The order slips have perforations 44 between their body portions and said head, so that the slips may be readily removed when the orders of the customer have been written thereon for transmission to th-e store..
The depending strip comprises a pad-holding panel 45 having transverse slits 46,47, therethrough, through which the tongue 39 is received for securing the pad to the p'adholding panel. The end of the tongue is passed rearwardly through the upper slit 46 and then forwardly through the lower slit 47 and is moved through said slits until the shoulders 40 strike the end Walls of the slit 46, which positions the pad with relation to the pad-holding panel. The order pad is arranged at the inner or front face of the padholding panel. The outer or rear face of the pad-holding panel is provided with an addressing space 48,.on which the name and address of the customer may appear.
The depending strip is also provided with a securing panel 51 provided with a tongue 52.
The pad-holding. panel and the securing panel are arranged to be folded about the pad and the folded panels of the transverse strip. The depending strip is provided with a transverse score 53 spaced from the transverse score 13 to form an end fold 54v at one end of the package formed by my improved device when in closed relation. The depending strip is also provided with transverse scores 55, 56, for forming an end fold 57 between them at the other end of the package formed by my improved device.
The pad-holding panel is provided With side wings 61, scores 62 being located between said pad-holding panel and said side wings for ready folding of the latter. The side wingsare also provided with scores 63, adjacent tothe scores 62, for forming side folds 64 at the sidesV of the package formed by my improved' devicey in packaged relation, the outer ends of the side wings forming side panels received upon the rear face of the main panel 16 when the device is in folded relation.
These side panels are provided with slits 65, which are arranged to register with each other endwise when the side panels are folded upon the rear fac-e of the main panel, and the main panel is provided with a slit 66 in registry with the slits 65. When the side wings are so folded, the tongue 52 is arranged to be received through the slits 65 and the slit 66 for arranging my improved device in closed packaged relation. v
A clasp 71 is secured to the upper end ofthe padholding panel 45. lt is formed of spring metal and comprises tongues 72, T3, connected by a transverse web, one of the tongues being secured to the inner face of the pad-holding panel, as by means of an eyelet 75. The order pad is arranged to be received between these tongues, thev lower end of the tongue 73 bein-fr provided with a ridge 'Z6- received under the forward down-turned flange 42 of the securing strip of the order pad.
Order pads may be releasably slipped into this clamp, and when the order slips thereof have been used, the head of the order pad may be slipped out of the clamp and a new order pad substituted therefor. The clamp has tongues .77 projecting therefrom to form a clamp for a pencil Z8 receivedin the space 79 betweenl the head of the order pad and the panels of the order chart, the folded arrangement of these panelsbeing shown in Figs. 5 and 6.
A retaining clip 81, shownA of arrow form, is pivoted on a pivot pin 32 to the tongue 73 of the clamp for the order pad. This retaining piece may be arranged lengthwiseof the head of the order pad, so that the panels of the sales chart may be spread, or said retaining piece may be swung on its pivot so as to be arranged lengthwise upon the folded panels of the sales chart, for holding said panels in folded relation, as shown in Fig; 3.
The sales chart is arranged to have its panels folded one upon the other and upon the main panel, and the order pad is arranged to be secured to the pad-securifng panel, and the latter panel swung reversely so that the face of the order pad is presented to the folded panels, the end fold 54 being at one end of the space between the main panel andV the padholding panel. l
The `side wings 61 are thereupon folded upon the outside or rear face 27 of the main panel, with the side folds 64 closing the sides of the space between the main panel and the pad-holding panel'. This arranges the sli-ts 65 in registry with each other and with the slit 66 The depending strip is thereupon further folded so that itsend end of the space between the/main panel and the pad-holding panel, and the tongue 52 is passed through the SlS 65, 66, the, Gnd. the
fold 57 closes the other tongue being located between the main panel and the adjoining folded panel of the sales chart.
A sealing strip 83 may thereupon be pasted across the slit 84 between theproximate edges of the side panels, and upon the adjoining margins of the wings 6l, which sealing strip may be a postage stamp, if desired, for securing my improved device together in folded relation. Said securing strip is however not essential, as the device will stay in folded relation without such strip.
The addressing space 48 is exposed at the outer face of the main panel and of the package for receiving the address of the customer to whom my improved device is to be delivered.
The customer may attach my improved device to a wall adjacent to the telephone, using a hole 85 in the main panel for hanging the device on a nail or hook. The strip 12 is arranged in depending relation and, if desired, that portion thereof below the score 55 may be removed by severing the same along sai score.
The side panels of the sales chart may be arranged in laterally extending relation, so
as to expose the designations at the front faces .,p
of the main panel and the side panels, and the side panels are readily reversible by swinging the same on the scores 20, for exposing the designations at the rear faces of the same, to the view of the person who is using the order 'pad for writing out an order.
The designations, both pictorial and literal,
are reminders to the customer of the goods sold by the store and of the possible requirements or desires of the customer.
When the order has been written on the slip, the side panels may again be folded upon each other and upon the main panel, and the retaining clip swung across the same to hold the same in place, so that the device occupies little space when not in use. If desired, the side wings 61 may also be removed along the scores 62, after the device has been delivered to the customer.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
