c. A. ADAM MEANS FOR PRODUCING PRINTING PLATES SPECIALLY FOR POSTER PRINTING Y Filed DOC-15, 1926 Patented Nov. 20, 1928 UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
CARL ANDREAS ADAM, OF HAMBURG, GERMANY.
MEANS FOR PRODUCING PRINTING PLATES SPECIALLY FOR POSTER PRINTING.
Application filed December 15, 1926, Serial No. 155,066, and. in Germany January 6,1926.
The present invention relates to means for producing lines for printing which are especially used for poster-printing, the printing plates or types and the block which holds the types being fitted with teeth and counter teeth or other means adapted to engage with one another, and designed to secure against displacement in lateral directions and Without the aid of justifiers the types or printing plates mounted .on the block spaced the one from the other.
The teeth on the plate-block made of one illustrated, by way of example, on the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 shows in top plan view,
Fig. 2 in front elevation and Fig. 3 is side elevation a plate-block and some printing plates or types fixed on the same.
Figs. 4 and 5 show each in front elevation a portion of a block with printing plate having teeth of other shape than those shown in Figs. 6 and 7 show each in side elevation a portion of a block and printing plate or t pe with clamping bar or facet-bar ofother sliape than those shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 8 shows in perspective view a form of construction in which the counter teeth are formed by a bar held between two equal parts I of a block.
In the drawing three printing plates or types a, a a are shown, by way of example, which together form the word Ale. They have grooves or ribs 6 in or on the lower surface. Similar grooves or ribs 7 are arranged on the block b. The teeth and counter teeth secure the printing plates or types a, a a on the block b against mutual displacement. The block and the printing plates or types are of equal breadth and arranged at the front end'and at the rear end for the reception of clamping bars or facet-bars d, the lower longitudinal edges of the block b having with this object in view bevelled or broken edges 71 (Figs. 8, 6, 7 and 8), and the vertical long sides of the printing plates or types a, a a have also bevelled or broken edges 0 (Fig. 7). Longitudinal grooves 0 (Figs. 3, 6 and 8) are out into the same, so that by the correspondingly shaped facet bars d, d 03 the printing plates or types a are securely held on the block b in the printing frame known per se.
The teeth and counter teeth of the printing plates or types a and of the block 6 mi ht be of the shape shown in Figs. 4 and 5. he teeth are designated in Fig. 4 by e and f and those in Fig. 5 are designated by c and f.
The clamping or facet barsmay be in cross section of the shapes shown in Fig. 2, in Figs.
6 and 8 or in Fig. 7.
As can be seen in Fig. 8 of the drawing the block may be composed of two equal longitudinal parts 6 and Z2 so that between the two,
parts a bar 6 can be accommodated which has teeth f in its upper edge and designed to engage with longitudinal grooves e in the lower surface of the printing plates or types a.
The block may be composed, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing, of transverse bars which have each teeth in the top edge. Bars 6 having one row of teeth, bars I) having two rows of teeth, bars b having three rows of teeth and bars b having still more rows of teeth may be used. The plate-block might further, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing, be
subdivided in transverse direction so that itof teeth corresponding to that on the impression member, the row of teeth on each of the several sections aligning when the sections are assembled in block form.
2. In combination, a printing impression member formed with a row of ribs extending transverse the printing lineof the member, a block having -a corresponding row ofrib's extending longitudinally thereof, whereby the impression member may be interlocked with the blocked; any point throughout its length, and means interfitting with the edges of the member and block to hold the member against movement on the block in a direction at right angles to the'holding ribs.
In testimony whereof I "fiiffix "m signature.
CARL ANDREAS ADAM.
