HAND GRIP FOR GOLF CLUBS OR THE LIKE.
Application filed April 9,
The invention relates to a hand grip for golf clubs or the like and has for one of its objects to so construct the grip that the handle of the golf club or the like will be correctly held by a players hand. Anotherobject is to so construct the grip that it protects the hand and more particularly the portion of the hand which is most liable to become sore. With these as well as other objects in .view, the invention resides in the novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hand grip embodying our invention;
Figures 2 and 3 are, respectively, a perspective view and a side elevation of the grip upon a hand;
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a modification.
The hand grip for the handle of a golf club or the like is a member formed of the substantially rigid part 1 and the flexible or pliable part 2, the latter being constructed to form a pad for the former and also means for detachably securing the former to a players hand. In detail, the part 1 is preferably formed from sheet metal and has the curved body portion 3 and the curved tongue por-' tion 4 integral therewith. The body'portion is designed to extend between the bases of the third and fourth fingers of the players left hand and the thenar eminence and to clear the hypo-thenar eminence and the curvature of this body portion is such that it substantiallyfits the palm of the hand.v The tongue portion is struck out from the body portion and is integrally connected thereto adjacent to the'bases of the third and fourth fingers and the curvature of this body portion is substantially that of the handle of the golf club or the like and less than the curvature of the body portion. The pliable part 2 has the body portion 5 which is slightly larger than the body portion 3 and is permanently secured thereto as by means of the rivets 6. This pliable part also has the loop portions 7 which are adj ustable to fit around the third and fourth fingers between the second and third joints of these fingers, suitable buckles 8 being provided in these loop portions to permit of adjusting the same.
lVith this construction of hand grip, it
will be seen that correct gripping of the han- 1928. Serial No. 268 632.
dle of the golf club or the like is assured, inasmuch as the part 1 has a portion for lying adjacent the palm of the hand and another portion detachably' engageable with the handle-of the golf club or the like to hold the same away, from the palm and against the fingers. Also the body'portion of the part 1 forms a guide for the palm of the hand so that the player may know whether he is properly holding the handle of the golf club or the like by feeling the pressure upon the palm due to the body portion. Furthermore, since the body portion vof the part 1 extends freely of the hypothenar eminence of the hand, tenseness in that portion of the forearm controlling the action of the hypo-thenar eminence 1S avoided so that proper swinging of the golf club or the like is facilitated. 'Also with this construction the player is conscious that his left hand has control over the club during the swinging. Furthermore, with this construction the hand, and more particularly the port-ion of the hand which is most' liable to become sore, is protected and the player may feel more assured of holding the club either in wet weather or when the hand is perspiring.
The modification shown in Figure 4 functions in the same manner as the hand grip shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3. However, in this modification the flexible or pliable part 9 of the hand grip is a glove and the substantially rigid part 10 is permanently secured to this glove to occupy the same position relative to the hand as the substantially rigid part 1.
What we claim as our invention is:
1. A hand grip for a golf club or the like,
comprising a member attachable to a players i hand and having a portion engageable with the palm of the hand, and a portion spaced from the palm and engageable with the handle to retain the same against the fingers of the hand.
2. A hand grip for a golf club or the like, comprising a member engageable over a finger of a players hand and'having a portion engageable with the palm of the hand, and a portion spaced from the palm and engageable with the handle to retain the same against the fingers of the hand.
3. A hand grip for a golf club or the like, comprising a member normally carried by a players hand during the use of the grip and arranged to engage the palm of the hand and to engage the handle and retain the same against the fingers of the hand.
4. A hand grip for a golf club or the like, comprising a member engageable with a finger of a players hand and having a portion engageable With the palm of the hand, and a portion detachably engagable with the handle to hold the same away from the palm.
5. A hand grip for a golf club or the like, comprising a substantially rigid part normally carried by a .players hand during the use of the grip and having a curved portion lying adjacent to the palm of the hand, and a second curved portionspaced from the palm and engageable With the handle to retain the same against the fingers of the hand.
6. A hand grip for a golf club or the like,
comprising a substantially rigid part normal.-.
ly carried by a players hand during the use of the grip and having a curved portion lying adjacent to the palm of the hand and an integralstruck-out curved portion engagea'b-le with the handle to hold the same away from the palm.
7. A hand grip for a golf club or the like, comprising a member normally carried by a players hand during the use of the grip and extending between the lingers and the thenar eminence freely of the hypo-thenar eminence, and detachably engageable With the handle to retain the same against the fingers.
8. A hand grip for a golf club or the like,
and thenar eminence freely of the hypo-'tlienar eminence, said part having a curved portion lying adjacent to the palm of the hand and a second curved portion engageable With the handle to hold the same away from the palm. a 9. A hand grip for a golf club or the like, comprising a pliable part having a portion engageable over a finger of a players hand, and a second portion engageable With the palm of the hand, and a substantially rigid part secured to said pliable part and having-a portion engaging said second portion, and a second portion engagea-ble With the handle to hold the same away from the palm.
10. A hand grip for a golf club or the like, 7
comprising a pliable part having a' loop portion engageable over a finger of a players hand and a body portion engageable With the palm of the hand, and a substantially rigid part secured to said pliable part and having a curved portion engaging said body portion, and a second curved portion engageable With the handle to retain the same against the tingers of the hand.
In testimony whereof We aflix our signatures.
