This invention relates to devices for exploding paper caps and the general ob ect of the invention 1s to provide a very simple device of this character which is so con-- structed that the child or person playing with the device cannot possibly be injured by the exploding cap.
A further object is to provide a device of this character having no springs to break or get out or" order, which is always ready for use, which will prevent more than one or two caps being exploded at one time and which will prevent the discharge of gases after the explosion.
My invention isillustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein The figure is a fragmentary sectional view through a cap shooter constructed in accordance with my invention, and showing in elevation a hammer supporting the cap shooter and c'oacting therewith.
Referring to these drawings,.10 designates a metallic body having an anvil 11 at its lower end and a slot 12 through the side of the body which communicates with the iollow interior 13 of the body so that the cap may be inserted through this slot and disposed upon the bottom recess 13, that is, upon the anvil 11. For exploding a cap or caps so disposed upon the anvil, I provide a hammer 14: which is of ordinary shape and provided wth the usual handle. The hammer head carries a transverse pin 15 the ends of the transverse pin extending through vertical slots 17 formed in the body 10.
The hammer head 14 is inserted in the body 10 and the body 10 is held to the hammer head by the transverse pin 15 which engages in the slot 17 in the body. Thus the hammer head is held at all times within the body and never extends entirely out of the body. In this construction the hammer head is permitted to work up and down just enough to allow only one or two caps to'be inserted at one time so that the operator cannot overload the device with c'aps.
After the explosion the remnants of the caps will drop out through slot 12, most of the gases escaping through this slot or around the hammer head.
In a device of this character a cap is placed upon the anvil and the hammer is then forced downward, the pin moving downward in the slots 17 and the head of the hammer will strike the cap and explode it. lVhen the hammer is drawn upward, the slot 17 will permit the pin to move upward permitting the exploded caps to be discharged. The gases caused by the explosion of the caps will readily pass out from the chamber 13 and through the slots 12.
This device is not only thoroughly effective as a means of exploding caps, but is entirely safe and the caps when exploded are disposed within the chamber .13 and there is no chance of a child being burned or injured in any way by the explosion of the caps.
The device is always ready for use, it has no springs or like elements'which are likely to break and obviously it may be strongly made so as to give long service. There can only be one or two caps shot off at one time, thus making it safe for the person using the toy.
