IMPROVEMENT IN ClGAR-MCLDS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,207, dated October 26, 1875; application filed June 12, 1875.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, HEINRICH VoLTz, of Cincinnati, in the 'county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Cigar-Mold, of which the following is a specification:

The object of my invention is to produce an improved cigar-mold that is not liable to shrinkage, warping, and other annoying features ot' the common glued molds, and that will readily adjust itselt' to any change or swelling ot' the sections without interfering with the shape ofthe cigars.

The invention consists ot' base and top molds, made of separate detachable fish-sections, sliding in metallic guide-frames, and being retained by strong binding-springs.

In the drawings, A represents the metallic guide-frame of the lower or base mold, and B that of the upper. The guide-frames A and B are made ot' sheet metal of suitable thickness to form a sti backing of the molds and prevent the warping and shrinking of the wooden backs or bases of the present molds which are liable to get soon out of order and give considera-ble annoyance. The guideframes are bent up at both sides to formlianges a that enter corresponding grooves of the mold-sections and admit their ready sliding in position thereon. The end pieces of each mold part are rigidly screwed to the guide-frame forming by the customary dowel or guiding pins and apertures the connection of the upper and lower mold parts. Both the upper and lower mold parts are made of a series of separate fish-molds, C D, that slide into the guide-frame, any suitable number of them being used. A separate mold for each cigar is formed by two adjoining lower sections, C, and the intermediately joining top section D. The lower sections C are attached to a leather strip, b, that passes through a slot of the end piece and allows the slight opening of the lower sections for the easy admission ot the upper sections on being pulled at the outer end, and for the ready discharge ofthe molded cigars. The sections of the upper and lower molds are firmly pressed t0- gether by strong spiral or other springs E, which allow a certain degree of exibility to the sections, so that the injurious ett'ects of any warping by swelling are prevented as each section gives7 readily sidewise, but without changing in lateral direction, by means of the stit't'ening guide-trames. Any fish-section may be readily replaced by detaching the fixed end sections so that these cigar-molds furnish greater durability and resistance against wear, and also by the flexibility of their parts, even and perfectly molded cigars.
