IMPROVEMENT IN HARVESTER-REELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,048, dated October 19, 1875; application filed April 14, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. F. SEIBERLING, of Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented an Improved Harvester- Reel, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists, first, of a novel construction of hinge-piece with two pulley-supports cast thereon, and set in a new relation to the hinge or pivot itself; second, in said hinge-piece with the cut-off support cast upon the front edge thereof, and, third, in a novel combination of devices.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of a harvester-reel post with my improved hinge-piece thereon in connection with other devices. Fig.2 is a top view of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 are detached views of the hinge-piece and pivot cast therewith.
Upon the reel-post A is fastened the hingepiece B, which is cast with the two pulleysupports a and a, Figs. 3 and 4. This hingepiece B is also cast with the ratchet and the cut-off support 0 thereon. Another hingepiece, P, is intended to hold the lever E and the reel-supporting arm R, and is pivoted to the hinge-piece B by means of a strong bolt or pivot, K. This hinge-piece P also carries the pawl O, which is operated by means of the wire or rod 1.
The chain-pulley supports a a are placed one above and the other below the pivot K, and in such relation thereto as to keep the ,chain N always of the same length or tightto be made longer, and, consequently, the cutoff may be raised quicker than it would be with a shorter cut-ofi' arm.
Having described my improvements, I claimv 1. The hinge-piece B, with the ratchet D cast thereon, in combination with the hingepiece P, pivot K, and pawl 0, substantially as set forth.
2. The hinge-piece B, with the cut-off support 0 upon the front edge thereof, in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
3. The hinge-piece B, having the fixed pulley-supports a and a, one above the pivot K and the other below said pivot, in combination with the chain N, and pulleys H and G, and swinging arm R, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
