LICH, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
. PATENT. O ICE- 1 or LYNDHURST, NEW J RSEY, ANn cunr iannsr wasanasmo DEVICE.
7 Application filed March 23, 1927. Serial No. 177,735.
A 10 purpose of cleaning same requires considerable time, as only a small area of said surface g is covered at a time, often damages the edges of said article, roughens and thins paper, tears holes therein, leaves streaky spots, and erases, on pencil-drawings for instance, pencil marks which one does not wish to remove. Among the objects of our invention are to rovide an erasing device adapted to remove ight dirt and pencil marks from a drawing or manuscript, and particularly from a comparatively lar e area thereof at a time, even- 1 in very litt e time, and without dolng any (i amage, and r to preserve while cleaning a drawing, particularly a pencil-drawing, g heavier marked lines, numerals and other characters thereon which one wishes to retain, and to provide an outfit for handling said erasing material. Another object of our invention is to furnish our erasing devicein ones hand with the erasing material or agent as well aswith the article from which dirt and light pencil marks are removed, is eliminated.
An important object of our invention is that all parts of same may be manufactured at little cost.
The drawing shows a device in perspective 7 for utilizing said erasing material and a recegz acle therefor.
e provide small scrapings or flakes of india-rubber or of similar material adapted to erase dirt spots etc., from paper, linen such a complete-makeup that a contact of Thereceptacle 1 serves to keep a portion of said rubber-flakes in orderly condition and may be placed in a desk, in a drawer or a drawing-table or elsewhere within easy reach. The cover 2 of said receptacle furnishes a rubbing plate 3 and has dull edges in order to overcome any resistance and to prevent a tearing or damaging of drawings, manuscripts, etc. i V i The handle4 of the cover 2 permits a firm A? strip of felt 5, a brush, or the like, fastened to said cover, serves to quickly gather and to remove the rubber flakes from an article after the cleaning thereof. To clean a dirty drawing, for instance, a quantit of said rubber-flakes is strewn thereon the receptacle 1 and evenly spread thereupon by means of the rubbing plate 3 of the cover 2. A pressure, and simultaneously a back and forth or circular motion of said cover, keep the rubber-flakes in a rubbing motion and rotation which produce the cleaning efrom feet. After the cleaning process, the rubber-flakes ma be removed into the receptacle 1 by means 0 the brush 5 to be used over and over again. 1 i
It is understood that no part of said cover undercleaning treatment and that no damage shall get indirect contact withthe article can be done by the rubber-flakes tothe arti cle under cleaning treatment, especially to the edges thereof,'as saidrubber-flakes produce a greater elasticity and yield better than one solid cake of erasing rubberto any obstacle. i
Said rubbing plate is of harder material than the rubber-flakes and may be. replaced by any means having a suitable rubbing surface. Furthermore, it may be corrugated,
flat or differently shaped to obtain a firm hold of the rubber-flakes beneath it and to effect a I good service of same.
All changes and modifications which come within the scope and spirit of our invention, are a part of same.
We claim:
1. Anerasing device for removing dirt and pencil marks, comprising a quantity of rubber-flakes of the character described.
2. In combination withan erasing device comprising a quantity of rubber-flakes of the character described, a rubbing plate adapted to engage said rubber-flakes as and for the purpose herein set forth.
3. An erasing device for removing dirt and 5 pencil marks comprising a quantity of erasing material in finely divided form and of a character to remove the marks b friction.
