' IRRIGATOR.
1 1 Application fiIed TMarch-G, 1328. Serial Ho.:2 59,524.
This invention relates tonew and useful improvements in irrigators adapted particularly for use, in vaginal and rectal douching.
Among the several Objects of my invention are to provide 'a liquid container-whichis especially adapted to be supported on aiwall and connected to the hot and cold water pipes and to the drain pipe of the ordinary house plumbing system, although from certain aspects my invention may be portable and thereby used wherever desired; to p ro vide such a container with a removableclosure. having an egress opening adjacent the overflow whereby gases may readily escape to the atmosphere; to provide the inner face of the rear wall of the container with suitable indicia indicative of the volume of liquid within the container; to provide such a container with a valved discharge nozzle to which a douching or other instrumentmay be readily attached preferably by means of a rubber hose, and to provide such a container Which is extremely simple in construction and therefore cheap to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view which will more fully appear, the nature of the invention will be more clearly understood by following the description, the appended claims, and the several views illustrated in the accompanying-drawings.
In the accompanying drawings;
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an'irrigator constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is'a vertical sectional view showing the application of my invention to a wall and to the plumbing system,
Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the container 7 taken at right angles to Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4 is a bottom plan of the closure.
Like reference numerals designate corresponding partsjthroughout the several figures of the drawings. 7
Referring to the drawings, my invention comprises a liquid-container A which embodies a bowl 5 of anydesired shape, but is preferably provided with a flat rear wall 6 which extends upwardly fora considerable distance abovethe upper edge 7 of the "bowl to form an extension 8 and is provided with openings 9, 10 for receiving the hot and cold water'spigotsor outlets 11, 12 of the house plumbing system, the fiat rear wall 6 permitting the container tobe placed in flat contact 7 with the wall 13.
The rear wall 6 is provided with an over egress of flow 101' drain opening 14 which .is located 1 slightly below the upper edge .7 .of the bowl. I preferably form .theiovenflowor drain opening 14 in .the rear wall '6 .anddirect .the openng orpassage downwardly to the bottom 'of'the rear wall .atwhich point it .is placed in communication with theldrain pipe 15 of the house plumbing system. If desirable, a per.
forated guard plate 16may be positioned at the inlet of thedrainv passage.
The front face of the rear wall 6, of the bowl is provided with suitable indieia 17 for indicating the volume of liquid in the container. I preferably employ a plurality of spaced horizontal depressed lines for this purpose,
the alternate lines being of different lengths and serving to indicate the/volume by quarts and pints;
Fitted tothe lower portion of the bowl, preferablyat the front thereof, is a valved discharge spigot 18 to which a douchingor other instrument (not shown) may be readily attached by a rubber hose 19.
" A closure 20 is removably seated on the upper edge 7 of the bowl and is provided with a hand piece 21 for use in positioning the closure on the bowl or removing the same therefrom. The closure is formed on its under face with a peripheral'flange 22 which cooperates with the wall of the bowl to retain the elosure in position. The rear portion of the closure 20, directly above the drain inlet, is formed with an opening 23 for the gases arising from the liquid within the bowl. s V I I j From the above, it will be appreciated that in hospitals much time will be saved in emergency cases by theconvenience this irrigator affords in irrigating wounds, rectal injections, douches, etc., and also that theinvention may be employed in homes either in connection with the plumbing system or separate theresage for permitting the egress of gas from 'the liquid, and a discharge outlet near the bottom of the container.
2. In an irrigating device the combination ot a llqllld container havlng a rear wall and an open top, the rear wall having an over- 7 flow passage formed therein, a closure for said container, the rear Wall-extending above the upper edge of the container and provided with a pair'of'openings for receivinghot and cold water discharge pipes, and a dis-,
amount of liquid within the container,csaid ing located adjacent said oveifiow opening for permitting the egress of gas from the liquid, the rear wall extendingabove the upper edge of-the container and provided with a pair of openings'for receiving hot and cold water discharge pipes, "a valved discharge spigot connected to the lowerpart of the container, and a flexible discharge pipe connected tosaid spigot.-' I
In testir'nonywh'ereof I hereunto afiix my signature. v
