Figureill is a View in section sllowillel the assembled device of Figures 9 and l0.
The improved sealing' device, 'as illustrated in the several ligures olI tbe dralvingi` compris ,s a cup-shaped lllelllber o, generally but shall llllt be movable on the not neces: ily circular in form, having| a bottom Z) and a rim o, and a cooperating lllember I which llray be, in its original form, a llzlt sheet, adapted to lit rather snugly within the riel ot the cup-shaped lnelllber e. 'lllese n'lembers are made of any sull-able lllaterial, l ually of relatively thin metal, lll allol' the illustrated eu'lbodiments olAl the :invention the tllread, cord or Wire to be sealed is laid across the eupellaped member a, the cooperating member (l is placed in position above lille icord within lille rim ot the cup-shaped lljleu'lber and the device is tillen subjected to the action of a suitable press or equivalenlitool by lvlliI ll the cooperatin ll'len'lber Z is prees-ed down lillll y upon the cord and toward the bottom `oli the cup-sllaped member and at llle same time the rilll o of tbe cui luned member is crimped, rolled or transtormed inwardly upon the edge oi the cooperating lllelllber d to hold tlleeooperatinej menlber in place, as indicated at c in each of Figures 2, 6, 8 and ll, whereby the cooperating1 member Z is secured to lille ellpsllaped member o in such fashion that it cannot be removed Without such destructive action on either the eupsllaped .member or the co-ogerating ll'lenlber, or both, as `vill disclose the lacttl'lat tlle de vice has been tanlpered with.
lll the embodiments of the invention .illustraled in Figures l, 2, 3, Ll, '7, 8, 9, l0 and lll, the rim of the cupwsll aped member is l'lotehell, as indicated at c2 in each of said figures, to receive Jdie oord e, the notch not being; carried to llle bottolll, While .in the en'lbodin'lenl'. el tl'le invention illustrated in Figure (5, the cooperating' mell'lber Z is notched at its edge at dialn'letrieally opposite points, as indicated at ul to aeeon'lmodate lll-e cord.
lt is ot course desirable that the cooperating ulen'lber (Z shall be held closely at its edge against lille bottom of lille cup-shaped memv ber` but it Will be obvious that separation ol the eeolrleratingmember and the bottom loa l lil:
may be formedV with prongs (Z2, Which may be struck up from the metalv and made to grip the cord when the parts are assembled, all as shown in Figures 7 and 8, the channel accommodating these prongs, as clearly shown in Figure 8. In a. similar manner7 if so desired, the bottom Zi might be formed with prongs b2, struck up from the metal, as-
shown in `)Figures 9 and l0, and arranged to engage the cord, as shown in Figure ll, when the parts are assembled.
As illustrated more particularly in Figures 5 and 6, the direction of the cord e is changed'abruptly when the sealing device is applied to the cord, so that it is practically impossible to pull the cord through the sealingl device.
It will be understood that the selection of materials ot' `which the sea-ling device is made and the .size ot the sealing device, as Well as the details of construction, Will be determined to some extent by the particular use to which the sealing device is to be put and that, except as pointed out in the claims, the inventionis not limited to the particular construction shown and described herein.
I claim as my invention:
l. A sealing device for cord and the like, comprising a cup-shaped member and a cooperating` member iitted Within the rim ot the cup-shaped member, the rim et thc enpshaped member being adapted to be turned down upon the cooperatingr member to hold itin place with the cord interposed liietueen the bottom et the cup-shapcd member and the cooperating' member, a channel Yformed in the bottom of the cup-shaped member lo receive the cord7 and prongs cooperating with the channel. section to elimine the cord,
n. it sealing` device for cord and the like, comp 'ng a cup-shaped member and :i cooperating' member fitted within the rim e'l the cup-shaped member. the rim et the cupshupcd member being' adapted to be turned down upon the cooperating member te hold it in place with the cord interposed between the bottom et the cup-shaped men'iber and the cooperating member, a channel formed in the bottom ot' the cup-shaped member le receive the cord, and pron on the cooperatinev member to engage the cord in the chain nel. the prongs being turned over upon the cord Vwhen the member engaged by the cupshaped member.
rIhis specii'ication signed this -Llth day of ldarch, A. D. 1927.
