Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PLINY E. WASHBURNE, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO CHARLES A. BABGOGK, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-DOOR KNOBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,858, dated October 19, 1875 application filed June 15, 1875.
'To all whom it may concern:
, knob proper, and a shank for securing it to the door, cast with the same, as hereinafterdescribed, the perforations of the knobs permitting a free circulation of the air, which maintains the knob at a comparatively low temperature.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section of my improved door-knob, and Fig. 2 a perspective view thereof.
A represents the metallic head of the knob,
cast hollow, and provided with openings or perforations a, of sufficient size and number to permit a free circulation of air through the head. b is the shank, by which the head A is secured to the door of the stove. It is either cast in one piece with the head A, of malleable metal, or it is made of wrought-iron, and the head A cast around it, so that the knob can be secured in place by riveting. If
preferred, however, the end of the shank b may be provided with a screwthread and nut for securing the knob to the door. a represents a hole formed in the front side of the head A, in line with the shank Z), to permit the insertion of a tool into the head A for supporting it as the shank is riveted to the stovedoor.
My improved knob for doors of stoves presents a very neat appearance, and is durable and cheap ofconstruction, while the circulation of air through the head of the knob maintains the same at a low temperature, which permits it to be handled with great convenience.
What I claim as my invention is-- 1. A ventilated metallic knob for doors of stoves, consisting ofa hollow perforated head, A, and shank b, cast in one piece, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore' set forth.
2. The combination, with the hollow perforated headA and shank b, of the hole 0, to receive the end of a riveting-tool, substantial- 1y as hereinbefore set forth.
PLIN Y E. WASHBURNE.
