DIS PL AiZ APPLIANCE.
Application filed na '4, 192a. seriai no. 275,059.
'My invention relates to'display or advertising appliances, especially, but not necessarily 'restrictedly, to'upright structures adapted to rest on the ground or sidewalk and to 'sup-' 5 port a legend-bearing plate in prominent exhibition position, whereby the attention of passers-by is directed to the advertising matter. i I
The leading aim or prime object of the in vention is to provide a structure of this character which is simple in construction, which is strong and rugged and hence able to withstand relatively severe usage,;which can be economically manufactured, and which is comparatively pleasing in appearance.
A further purpose of the invention is the production of an apparatus of this type and style which is capable of accommodatingdisplay plates or members of different sizes.
To enable those skilled in this art to fully understand the invention, both from structural and functional standpoints, in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, I have illustrated a present, desirable and preferred embodiment of the invention and throughout the views thereof, for simplicity, like reference characters have been employed to designate the same parts.
In this drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the appliance showing the base in central vertical section;
Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical central section on line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a horizontal section on line 3-3 of Figure 1; and
Figure a is a fragmentary detail section of the display-plate supporting ring or band.
Referring to the several views of the drawing, it will'be observed that the base of the display apparatus includes a metal rin 11 adapted to rest on the ground, sidewalk oor or the like, the opposite sides of such circular element having riveted to them at 12, 12, the downturned ends 13, 13 of a metal bar-14 extended across the center ofthe ring at which middle point such bar carries a threadedsocket-piece 15 riveted thereto at 16, 16.
The member 15 is also connected to the ring by a pair of diametrically oppositely-disposed bars 17, 17 fastened thereto by rivets at 18, 18 and also having downwardly-bentends 19 riveted at 20 to the base-ring 11.
Thus, these several strongly-united elements constitute or form a supporting-base of suitable shape and of adequatestrength.
The central threaded socket or cavity of spondingly screw-threaded, loweriend'of an upright, tubular standard 21, the: upper threadedrendof which is similarly accom- .modated man-internally threaded'soeket'porthe 15 demountablyz-receives thecorretion 22 on the under sideof a curved isup-I porting-member 23 having a longitudinal channel 24' in its supper-surface designed to holdv or admit the peripheral, outstanding,
As is illustrated, the hollow interior or internal-channel ofthe rib 25 receives the circularmargin of a round, sheet-metal displayplate 28 on one or both faces of which the advertising or other matter to be exhibited is provided. 1
In order that the appliance may be used with plates of somewhat different diameters, therring or frame member 26 is not made continuous but its ends 29, 31 are joined together I by a connectingpiece 32 which allows or permits adjustment or variation of the space or distance'between such ring ends. 7 I
Such joining or uniting element is shaped in cross-section to conform to the outer surface of the ring and its one end is riveted at 33 ,to one end of the ring, but the otherend portion of the connector is providedwith a series of pairs of holes34, 34 any pair of which may receive bolts 35, 35 extended through holes in the adjacent or other end 31 of the rlng I m v Thus, by inserting the-bolts in the diflerent pairs of connector may require.
Since the display or. exhibition plate is round, it might have a tendency to turn in its supporting ring and thus cause the advertisholes, the size of the ring may besomewhat-m0d1fied as circumstances ing matter to occupy a sloping or tilted rela-' tion. 1
To preclude the occurrence of such a contingency, suitablemeansare provided to lock 1 the plate against such turning action.
To this end, 'a suitably-bent, sheet-metal clip 36 is fastened by a screw37 to a face of the support 23 and by a bolt 38 against the adjacent surface of the plate 28.
From the foregoing, it should be manifest that the appliance can be shipped in knockeddown condition and the parts may be readily assembled when required, the display plate is held firmly in position by an expansible and contractible encircling frame, and the plate is prevented from shifting or moving out of proper or correct exhibition position.
Those acquainted with this art will readily understand that the invention, as defined by the appended claims, is not limited to the exact and precise details of structure pre sented and that these may be modified within comparatively. wide limits without departure from the heart and essence of the invention and with out the sacrifice ofany of its substantial or material benefits or advantages.
1 claim:
1. In a display-appliance, the combination of a base, a standard supported by said base,
a ring having an internal circumferential channel mount-ed on the top of said standard,
, means adjustably securing together the ends of said ring, a display-plate mounted in said ring with its edge accommodated in said channel, and means to prevent said plate from turning in said ring. v
2. In a display-appliance, the combination of a base, a standard supported by said base, a grooved support on the top of said standard, a ring having anexternal hollow rib affording an internal circumferential channel mounted on said support with its rib in said groove, and a display-platemounted in said ring with its edge. portion accommodated in said channel.
In witness whereof have hereuntoset'my ihand.
