My invention relates Yto improvementsin automatic brake operator for incline hoist, and it consists in the combinations, construe tions, and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of my invention is toprovide an automatic brake operator for inclined hoist which is designed to work in conjunction with a standard safety device for mine hoists, and to eliminate some of the dangers and diihculties encountered inv operating a minehoist to raise and lower a train of cars on slopes or inclines.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the type described which maybe applied to any controller for hoist ing engines, but which is specially adapted to be appliedto the hoisting engine controls of Lilly et al., SerialNo. 627,504, filed March et, 192s. Y
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the Vtype described in which the parts are reversible to be .applied to either a clockwise or a counter-clockwise rotating controller. i
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims;

In carrying out my invention, I provide a frame 1 having a relatively large ange ofthe device as portion 2. The flange portion 2 is provided with openings 3 .for receiving machine screws 4 by means of which the frame 1 is secured to the frame H of a hoist control. The frame 1 is also secured to the frameH at 5 by means of machine screws 6i The flange portion 2 is further provided with an open ing 7 for receiving the shaft 8 of the hoist control. f l

From the foregoing description n of the various parts of the device the operation there-of kmay be readily understood. Without a device of this character, in case the power fails while hoisting a trip, vor ifth'e,V

Therefore, since theldrfum willnot. startin the reverse direction, exceptwhen the load ispulling it, the slack xwill be/taken- .up when theV brakes .are applied ,inthis case and the 4 abnormal strain on,y gthe rope is eliminated. y

The combination with a hoist control having a shaft operatively connected to a cable drum, a brake mechanism for stopping v the rotation of said drum, a lever for actuating said brake mechanism when released, of an arm for holding said brake lever in the set position, a paivlpivotally mounted upon said arm, means for moving said pavvl into operative position, Vand means removably mounted upon said shaft for engaging with said pawl for moving said arm for releasing said brake lever.

The combination With a hoist control having a shaft adapted to rotate in a clock- Wise and a counter-clockwise direction, of a toothed disc removably secured to said shaft, a latch arm, spring means for holding said arm in normal position, a paivl pivotally carried by said latch arm, and means for moving said pawl into engagement With said toothed disc when said disc is rotating in al counter-clockwise direction, said disc Ybeing adapted When rotated in a clockwise direction to engage with said patvl and move said latch arm out of normal position.
6. In a device of the type described, a toothed disc, a paWl, a Weight arm, said weight arm adapted to engage with said pavvl, a cam disposed in engagement with said weight arm, and means for moving said cam for raising said Weight arm into engagement with said pawl and for raising said pawl into engagement with said toothed disc.
7 A device of the type described comprisn ing a toothed disc, a latch arm, spring means tor holding said latch arm in normal position, a paWl rotatably mounted upon said latch arm, a Weight arm adapted to engage with said pawl, a cam disposed in engagement With said vWeight arm, and means for actuating said cam for raising said Weight arm into engagement with said pavvl and for moving said pawl into engagement with said toothed disc, said toothed disc being adapted to rotate in a counter-clockwise direction said disc being adapted when rotate ing in a clockwise direction to engage With said pan'l and movesaid latch arm out of normal position.
8. A device of the type described comprising a rotatable toothed disc, a latch arm, yieldable means tor holding said latch arm in normal position, a lever adapted to be held againstmovement by said latch arm when in normal position, means operatively connected to said lever for actuating a brake for stopping rotation of a cable drum When released by said lever, a paWl rotatably mounted upon said latch arm, a Weight armadapted to engage with said paWl, a cam disposed in engagement with said Weight arm, and means for actuating said cam for raising said Weight arm into engagement with said paivl and for moving said pavvl into engagement With said toothed disc, said disc being adapted When rotated in one direction to engage with said pawl and move said latch arm outof normal position `for releasing said lever, whereby said brake-actuating means will actuate said brake for stopping the rotation of said cable drum.
