Specification forming part of Letters Patent No- 168,756, dated October 11, 1875 application iled Angust 19,1875.
To aLl whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, TEoMAs C. LOVE, f
' Waldo, in the county of Webster and State -shall be secured to the haines by a broad dexible seam or web clamped between a metallic strip and the inside ofthe haines, for the purpose of increasing the elasticity of the pad, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth and pointed out in the claim.

A is the hame, which may be of the ordinary construction, beingformed by two halves or side pieces, each having the necessary hooks, rings, Svc., by which it is connected with the tug-lines, &c. The two halves A are buckled together at the top and bottom, the buckling-straps ot at the top passing through one of the eyes o of the metallic neck-piece C. The collar consists of two pads, D D, one of which is fastened to each of. the side pieces of Y the hame in the manner hereinafter described.
The pads D consist ot long narrow bags stuied with wool, cotton, or any other suitable 'material. A seam of considerable width is left along the side of each bag, so as to form a broad iiexible web, that admits of its being secured to the side piece of hame A by being clamped between said side piece and a flexible metallic strip, E, which is then secured by screws i, thus' securely clamping or holding the pad D in its proper position in relation to the hanne. The strip E prevents the web ol from being torn by the screws or tacks t', while Vthe broad flexible web d that inter-venes between the inner sides of the haines :and the filled or stuffed portions ofthe pads permits the latter to lie up close to the hames when in use, so as to forman independent elastic cushion, secured to the haines only along the metallic strip E, which clamps the web d. Besides, by this method of securing the collar-pads to the hame, they may be readily removed when worn out by simply loosening the screws t' and clamping-strip E, and others may be substituted.
Having thus described myinven tion, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- In a horse-collar, the pads D D, constructed with a flexible web, d, intermediate to the attaching-s-eam, for the purpose of increasing the exibility and elasticity of the pads, in the manner substantially as hereinbeforc shown andl described.
