POSTAGE-STAMP HOLDER.
Application filed August 27, 1927. Serial No. 215,788.
This invention relates to holders for postage stamps, tickets, or other similar slips, and has for an ob ect the provision of a holder of suchcharacter, which can be simply and economically manufactured; which 18 of compact and attractive-form; which will provide a plurality of separate compartments for stamps of different denominations,,which will permit the user of the holder to conveni O iently see, and accurately select for withdrawal, a stamp of any one of a plurality of denominations; and which will permit the easy withdrawal of the stamp desired.
The invention claimed is hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1. is a plan view of a holder embodying the invention; Figs. 2 and 3, side and front views, respectively, of the same; Fig. 4, a partial plan view, on an enlarged scale, of one of the halves of the holder, showing the stamp withdrawal face; Fig. 5, a sectional view of the holder, taken on the line, a a, of Fig. l; Figs. 6 and 7 views, in perspective, of the frame, and of the cover, of one of the stamp compartments, respectively, and; Fig. 8, a view, in perspective, showing the frame and cover in assembled position, with the cover raised.
In the'practice of the invention, referring descriptively to the specific embodiment thereof which is herein exemplified, the holder comprises a casing, 10, of rectangular form, formed in two halves, which are connected together at one end of the casing by a hinge pin, 10 A clasp, 11, is provided at the opposite end, for locking the two halves together. A plurality of stamp compartments is disposed in each half of the casing.
Each compartment comprises a rectangular frame, 12, of suitable size toreceivea supply of stamps, stacked fiatwise; and a cover, 13, which is hinged to the frame.
Each frame is provided at one. end,-with.
an inclined guide flange, 12", which slopes in a curve upwardly, from the bottom of the frame to the top thereof. and extends from one side of the frame to the other.
The cover comprises a top wall, 13, a vertical end wall, 13', and two vertical side walls,
and adapted to receive the extensions, 13", of the cover.
The top wall, 13*, of the cover, is formed with a substantially oval slot, 13", which extends through one end of the cover.',-This slotpermitsthe tip of the finger to beinsert ed into the compartment, to engage the topmost stamp of the stack, whereupon the stamp may be slid out through a slot 13, disposed above the guide flange, and communi-,
eating with the slot 13?.
To provide for locking the cover of the compartment in closed position, a protuberance, 12, is stamped on the end wall, 12", of the frame, and a matching recess, 13, is formed in the end wall, 13*, of the cover.
In the use of the improved holder, a supplygof stamps stacked fiatwise, with their printed faces upmost, is placed in each of the compartments. V The denominations of the stamps used may be varied as desired. ,In the holder shown in the drawing, fivecompartments are fitted in each half of the cas- I ing, four of which are of the same size, and are dimensioned to hold small stamps, such as two cent postage stamps, while the fifth compartment is made of larger size,- to hold large stamp's,;such as special delivery and air mail stamps.
After the holder has been filled with stamps of the desired denominations, all that it is necessary to do in order to withdraw astamp of a particular denomination, is to insert the tip of a finger through the slot, 13 in the top wall of the cover of the com- .partment containing stamps of that denomination, and by drawing the finger along the j slot, slide the topmost stamp through the slot, 13 out of the compartment. It is to be noted that the guide flange, 12 of the compartment is made; with a suitable slope,
to insure upward and outward movement of successive stamp-s, from the stack.
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that this invention provides an improved stamp holder possessing the following important advantages, via: it can be easily and inexpensively manufactured; it has the quality of compactness, particularly adapting it for attachment to a watch chain, as an article of jewelry; it stores the stamps so that the denominations in the various come partments can be seen at a glance; and it enables the topmost stamp only, of the stack, to be-slid from the compartment.
The holder may be manufactured of any suitable material, for example, of gold, silver, or nickel, and the thickness and Weight of the material used may be Varied as desired.
The outside of the holder may be finished smooth, or ornamental, and With or without monograms or emblems, as desired.
The invention claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:
1. A postage stamp carrier, comprising a two-part hinged casing: and a plurality of independent stamp holders insertible in said casing; each of said holders consisting of a box member having; its bottom inclined upwardly at the front end and slotted at the sides, and'a cover member having a finger opening in its top, its front end open and its side Walls providedwith extensions adapted to enter said slots to form a hinge connection between said members.
2. A box for postage stamps, comprising 'Walls provided at said'end With projections adapted to enter said slots to form a hinge connection, the top of said cover member havmg a finger opening.
