WATER SEAL FOB WASTE PIPE.

This invention relates to a plumbing seal and trap construction.

The chief object of the invention is to construct a plumbing seal with the parts'arranged in such a manner that the same is self cleaning. 7

Another object of the invention is to arrange the parts of the trap such that the clean out is simultaneously sealed with the intake.

Another object of the invent-ion is to pro vide the trap, when employed with a floor outlet, with a cover.

Further features of the invention consist in the arrangement of the several parts of the trap and cover whereby the foregoing objects are accomplished.

The full nature of the inventionwill be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claim.

In the drawings Fig. 1 is an elevational view of the invention showing the same ap plied to a tub installation, the same being shown in section. Fig. 2 is an enlarged similar sectional view of the seal and trap. Fig. 3 is an end view thereof. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the same.

In the drawings 10 indicates a tub supported upon a floor 11 and having the overflow 12 and drain 13 connected to the inlet 15 of the seal and trap. The outlet 16 is connected to the discharge line 17. The floor is apertured at 18 and accessible therethrough is the clean-out 19 protected by cover 20. The clean-out 19 is closed by a pipe plug 21 having a threaded connection therewith and a tool engageable portion 22 projecting upwardly and above the floor level. The cover 20 is suitably secured in position to completely cover the floor opening 18, the clean-out 19 and the closure therefor. A screw bolt 23 secures the cover 20 to the clean-out closure.

The seal includes the clean-out 19, the inlet 15 and the outlet 16. A relatively large radius curvature sealing portion 24 connects the outlet to the inlet and also to the cleanout and the same are so arranged that the seal simultaneously seals the inlet and clean- 1926. Serial No. 126,266.

Inlet 15 is of substantially the same cross sectional area as outlet 16and clean-out 19 is similar thereto. Also the cross. sectional area of substantially the entire portion of the sealing connection is of the same cross sectional area with the result that the trap is self cleaning insuring that everything which enters. the trap by way of inlet 15 will.

be discharged from outlet 16, and the full 1 pressure applied at inlet 15 will be transmitted substantially undiminished to the outlet 16 and thus insure complete discharge of the sealing liquid in the sealing portion 24 and of additional liquid supplied thereto.

WVith respect to the cover 20, it will be noted that it is of flexible sheet metal so that it may adapt itself to variations in height between the top of the plug and floor. This permits of the useof a standard cover normally conforming to the maximum height above the floor-to which the top of the cleanout plug extends, and adapted to flex downwardly where. it is attached to the plug wherein the top of the plug comes closer to the floor level.

The invention claimed is:

A trap including a clean-out passage di- I rected upwardly, an intake passage directed downwardly and an outlet passage directed upwardly and terminating between the terminations of the clean-out and inlet and above the connection therebetween for simultaneously sealing both the intake and cleanout from the discharge, saidclean-out and intake passages each having a gradual curvature in general direction and oppositely directed and arranged in V-format-ion, with the outlet passage being connected thereto at the junction of the other two passages and including an intermediate downwardly curved sealing portion formed asa continuation of the clean-out passage curvature.
