Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,680, dated October 11,1875; application filed August 14, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LYMAN W. SUTTON, J r., of Jersey, City, Hudson county, New Jersey,
have invented a new and Improved Dental ljilling, of which the following is a specifica- Hon:
' The object of my invention is to furnish for dentists an improved dental filling that is free from mercury, very plastic, and condensable in its application, readily produced, non-corrosive, and of' antiseptic properties.
The filling consists of metallic tin applied in acrystallized state, as obtained by being precipitated on a strip of zinc placed in a'solution of muriat-e of tin, and is prepared by placing a strip of zinc in a solution of tin in muriatic acid, which causes a precipitation of metallic tin through the diflerence in chemical affinities, forming in spongy crystals on the surface of the zinc,so that it may be removed and applied directly'to the tooth.
The precipitated or crystallized tin is very plastic and condensable, and should 'be used in its spongy state as removed from the solution, the moisture being separated mechanically-by the pressure and in the filling process.
The pressure condenses the filling into a solid and homogeneous metal, that shows no traces og -the different layers, is capable of taking a'I igh polish, and resists efi'ectively corrosion and abrasion without shrinkage or deterioration, forming thereby a very advantageous and durable filling for dental use.
