MACHINE FOR CASTING STEREOTYPE PLATES. l
Application filed. February 5, 1927, Serial No. 166,227, andlin Germany May 18, 1925;
In making machines for casting stereotype plates of this type, as in all other branches of manufacturing, it is desirable to standardize as many parts as possible, so that in constructing the ordered sizes of machines, the parts can be taken from stock. The mould itself must be made specially, according to the size of the newspaper page. Up to the present the frame for carrying the mould-and moving it to the outlet opening of the pot containing the molten metal had to be made specially as well.
According to my present invention this frame is alsostandardized for all sizes of newspapers. For this purpose the frame is supported by the furnace walls by means of, at least one, eccentric bush, on each side of the machine, seated in a hole of the furnace wall. be brought into such positions that a mould of any of the sizes in question can be brought into the proper position in regard to the outet opening of the pot. If two eccentr1c bushes are used, one seated in the other, one of the two is preferably used for line adjustments. i 7
On the drawing illustrating the invention by way of example, Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the mould framewith mould and Fig. 2 a section on the line AB in Fig. 1. V
Figure 3 is a vertical section of the machine, and Figure 4 is a front view thereof.
Referring to the drawing, A is a furnace, B the melting pot and C the mold.
The mould consists, as usuah-of a core 3) tened to the pivoted frame a and of a mantle 0 having guided up and down movement in said frame. The mantle 0 of the mold is guided in slots of the frame, not shown, and is moved up and down by the crank mech anism D connected with the mantle by links (1 and operated by the motor E and upon the cranks (Z of which the members a of theframe a are seated. lhe means for guiding and moving the mantle up and down forms-no part of this invention, the same being old and well known. mould is formed by the distancebetween the core 6 and mantle 0.; and in the casting position, this inlet opening all mustalways register with the outlet 6 of the pot B. The outlet 0 of the melting pot B and the inlet (Z of the By turning these bushes the frame can The inlet opening (Z of this moldC are controlled by valves 6 and 0 re spectively. The frame a is mounted on the v furnace casing by means of eccentric bushes. f and g at each side of the furnace. As
rear emen 1 shown, the members a of the frame a are secured to the eccentric bushes g mounted. in the eccentric bushes f which are mounted in furnace casing; By this means with moulds. of all sizes the openings (Z and 6 can be brought into register by turning, on both sides of the machine, the eccentric bushes into th'e corresponding angular position.
Consequently, the frame a can be used for all sizes of mould.
By means ofthe eccentric bush gany differences at the ends of the mould can be made up for. ."lhe two eccentric bushes f,
. 9, have flanges 7L, 2' with slots 70, Z, through which passbolts m, n which are screwed into the furnace walls and eccentric: bush f respectively, so that both bushes can be kept in the desired angular position. By loosening the screws on a, the bushes 7" can be turned by a suitable tool to bring them into the de sired position. What I claim and desire to secure by Let-- ters Patent of the United States is: i
v '1, A casting machine for stereotype plates, comprising in combination a furnace, a melting pot in said furnace, having a slot opening in the lower part thereof, a mould adapted to be brought into contact with said pot so that the outlet opening of said pot registers with the inlet opening of said mould, a frame to carry and move said mould, and an. eccentric bush to pivot said frame, seated in the wall of said'furnace on each side of the machine, substantially as, and for the purpose, set forth.
2. A casting machine for stereotype plates, I
comprising in combination a furnace, a melting pot in said furnace, having a slot opening in the lower part thereof, a mould adapted to he brought into contact with said pot so thatthe outlet opening of said pot registers with the inlet opening of said mould, a frame to carryand move said mould, an eccentric bush seated in the wall of said furnace on each side of the machine, and a second eccentric bush seatedin each of said eccentric bushes to pivot said frame, substantially as, and fo the purpose set forth.
3. In a machine for casting stereotype plates, a furnace, a melting pot in the furnace and having an outlet in its lower portion, a frame, a mold carried by the frame below the 5 melting pot and having an inlet in its top adapted to registerwith the outlet of the melting pot, and means for pivotally and adjustably mounting the frame on the furnace,
whereby different sized molds can be earried by the frame and their inlets brought into register with the outlet of the melting pot.
In testimony whereof I have signed name to this specification.
CARL WINKLER. i
