This invention relates to copy-holderattachments for typewriters in which a copysheet is fed line by line pasta guiding plate.
In the drawings, this invention is illustrated in connection with an Underwood corn- L blIleCl typewriting and computing'machine having a fan-fold attachment, such as that disclosed in the application of William F.
Helmond, SerialNo. 609,560,filed December The copy-holder is mounted considerably higher than the machine, straddling the same and the fan-fold attachment, and is so placed that the operator may at all times iave the line of copy being read in the same position and directly in the normal line of vision.
The copy-sheet is inserted around the copyparrying cylinder and is run down a paper-chute at the introductory side and fed around the under side of the cylinder by means of co-operating pressure rolls, and up in front of the cylinder to a position where the first line of copywill be visible to the operator past the aligning edge of a guiding plate at the delivery side of the cylinder. The cylinder is manually operable by means of a finger-wheel in one of its ends fastened to the shaft which carries the cylinder.
Successive lines on thecopy-sheet are made visible by feeding the same around the cylinder one line at a time as the lines of writing are read, and, in order to facilitate the feeding of the copy-sheet, another finger-wheel is provided near the key-board of the machine,
' a and, is operatively connected tothe cylinder by means of a suitable transmission comprismg a rearwardly-extendmg shaft connected by means of bevel-gears to an upwardly-extending shaft which is in turn operatively inder, and the pressure-rolls resiliently fastened to said paper-chute.

Referring more particularly to Figure 1 of the drawings, 10 is a typewriter-mounted upon a computing niachine 11 and supported by a stand 12. To the rear of the typewriter there is shown a fan-fold attachment, including supporting brackets 13, a carbon-carrier 14 and a handle 15 for operating the latter.
A copy-sheet 16 is inserted around a copycarrying cylinder 17 and is run down a paper-chute 18 and forwardly around the under side of the cylinder 17 and up in front thereof; the copysheet 16'is carried around the cylinder by pressure rolls 19 co-operating with said cylinder and is fed to a posi tion where the first line of copy 20is exposed past the aligning edge 21 at the delivery side of the cylinder 17 which is operable by means of a finger-wheel 22 fast on a shaft 23, which also carries the cylinder 17 The pressure rolls 19are held under tension, and bear against the cylinder 17 by means of support ing springs 46 fastened to the paper-chute 18 by screws {17. a
In order to advance the copy-sheet for line-spacing the same and for successively bringing into view new lines of writing on the copy-sheet, there is provided mechanism whereby the-copy cylinder may be operated spectively fastened to the shafts 30 and 23, the latter carrying the cylinder 17.
Supporting the cylinder 17, there are shown in the drawings the brackets 33 and 36 fastened to the machine stand 1-2 by means of screws 37, said brackets being reinforced by the trusses 38 :fastened to the supporting brackets 13 by screws 39 and. to. the brackets 33 and 36 by means of screws l0.
The copy-holder is designed to be detacl1 able from the supporting brackets in order that new carbon-sheets may be placed in the carbon-carrier of the fan-fold attachment. Variations may be resorted to within the scope. of the invention, and portions of" the improvements may be used. without others.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1; The combination with a typewriting machine having a reciprocable carriage of a copy-holder, bracket supports therefor, each support extending upwardly from below the typewriting machine iwith one support. on either side thereof, detachable end plates on the upper ends of the supports for supporting the copy-holder at either end thereof above the typewriting machine, the bracket supports being sufficiently far apart to allow reciprocation therebetwcen of: the typewriter carriage. 2. The combination of a copy-holder, bracket supports therefor, each support torminating ina lip, end plates at either end of thecopy-holder, said end plates each having a slot therein into which the lipsof the supports may. extend to holdthe copy-holder in position and to permit it to beliftedfromithe supports. The combination of a typewriter stand, a: copy-holder comprisingend plates,.a. revoluble cylinder journaled in the endplates,,a paper chute attached directly. to the end plates for joining them together, the paper chute extending around the under side of the cylinder and terminating at the'delivery side of said cylinder with the. straight edge par- F all eli to the axis of the cylinder, a plurality of pressure rolls resiliently mounted upon said paper chute and cooperating withsaid cylinder for feeding a copy sheet therethrough, and means for supporting said copyholder including supporting member on either side of the top of the stand.

A copy-holder having end plates, a gear wheel at one end of the copy-holder, brackets for supporting said' end plates and having slotted' connections therewith whereby the copy-holder may be readilydetachedfrom the brackets, a chain of operating mechanisms intergearedwith said gear wheel and extending downwardly andto'the front for operat ing the copy-holder, said chain of mechanisms being broken by detaching the end plates from the brackets.
