In order to fully explain andI describe my invention, I have illustrated ,in the accompanying drawing a cash register such as commonly employed by merchants when njialringv change,.or1depositing cash `received lfrom :a
customer in ,payment for goods kreceived or cash register Vcomprises the `usual. container 10, adapted to enclose or cover the'mechanismusedito operate thecash register and the cash drawer 11, slidably .mount-ed therein.`
1 ,'.I'he cash registeris ,also provided ywith a plurality. of extended ylmobsl2, or buttons, which when depressed,or lforced, downwardlyby the operatoror merchantVuse the amount of' the purchase made to appear on themarkers 13 which areraisedto viewintermediate the transparent members 14 and 15. yThe cash register is also providedwith usual 'handle 15, which when rotated or turned by the said operator, causes the :drawer 11 to slidably open or to be extended, permitting the operator to depositl or remove "money from the said drawer,"as may be desired.
The above 4mentioned y yvenient portion of the cash register.
r1927.' serial No. 190,702f
bevel pinion 22, is attached to the shaft 20 and .meshes with the bevel gear 23 attached to the shaft 24. The shaft24 is slidably positioned in the tubular member 25, rotatively mounted in thebrackets 26, attached to the lower member 2T upon which the drawer :11 is slidably mounted. The pin 28 is secured to .theshaft 24 and is extended therefrom, .engaging in the elongated longitudi-` nal aperture 29 formed in the tubular member 2 5 s o as to permit the vshaft 24, when in any desired extended position, to rotate the tubular member25. The gear 30 is attached tothe tubular member 25, and meshes with,
teeth "formed in then-ack bar 31, slidably mounted in the guide ymember 32 secured toV the cash register. The rod 33 is lattached to the rackfbar 3l, and is extended upwardlyv therefrom, and hasattached at its extended extremity, a ysign member 34,.having affixed thereto printed or otherwise, yon bothsides thereof any desired advertisingmatter.
The gear 3() mesheswith teeth formed in the l rack bar 35, slidably mounted in the guide member 3G, secured tothe saidcash register. The rod 37 is attached to the rack bar 35 and is extended upwardly therefrom. The lever 38 .is pivotally attached intermediate as at 39, to the cash register. The lever 38 is pivotally attached las at ,40, .to 'the extended vextremity .of the rod 37 and,l as at 41, ,to the arm 42, pivotally attacljied as at 43 to the sign member 44', slidably mounted in the guide member 45, secured to the cash register.- The signin-einher 44 has aflixed thereto, printed or otherwise on both sides thereof, kany vdesired advertising matter. y' Y Y The above described construction is such as will permit lthe flever 16, when forced or pushed...againstthe .end vof the drawer l1, by a person removing cash from the said drawer, to raise the sign members 34 and 44, behind the transparent members 47 and 49, so as to permit the advertising matter, affixed thereto, to be visible. It is to be understood that the said sign members 34 and 44, will be slowly. returned to an invisible or normal position by means of the tension spring 46, secured to the rack bar 31, and to any corit shouldbe understood that the sign members 34 and 44 may be illuminated by the usual electric light bulbs 51 provided to illuminate the said cash register. Attention is called to the feature that an operator of the register ma;v place money into, or remove money from the register without necessarily disturbing the lever I6. 'Ihus the cash drawer may be operated withoutoperating theA advertising signs. This is ot great advantage when the display signs recite. for example some aiticle intended tor exclusive feminine use. and a gentleman is at the register receiving change 'or some other article that he pur chased.
In Figs. 6 and 7, I have shown a semitransparent plate member 52 bearing advertising matter, supported by springs 52at on a semi-transparent bowl 53 having projecting portions 53C also bearing advertising matter. rIhe bowl 53 is mounted within a coin receiver bowl 54 of star shaped construction attached to the side ot the container l0. Lights 52b are supported trom the plate and other lights 52d are mounted within the bowl 54. Contacts 52c are connected with these lights, and operable for lighting the lights by manual depression or" the plate member 52. T he bowl 53 has pins 53 extending therefrom and slidably engaging in apertures in the bowl 54. The expansion springs 55 are wound around the pins 53 and are positioned intermediate the bowl 53 and the lower portion, or bottom ot the coin receiver 54 so as to normally hold the bowl 53 in an upwardly extended position tree from the bottom of the coin receiver 54. The rack bar is secured to the bowl 53 and is e2;- tended downwardly therefrom, through an aperture formed in the bottom ot the coin receiver bowl 54. The raclr bar 55 engages with the pinion G attached to the shaft 57 rotatively mounted on the side of the container and in the bracket 58, attached to the register 10. The bevel pinion 59 is attached to the shaft 57 and meshes with a similar bevel pinion 60 attached to the said tubular member 25. The above described construction is such as will permit the plate member 52 to be forced downwardly by the hand ot the said operator, when removing coins placed on the plate member 52 so as to raise the sign members 84 and 44 so as to permit the advertising matter ailiXed thereto to be visible and at the same time light certain lights, such as It should be understood that coins placed on the plate member 52 is the cash rendered tor the goods roceived, or the change due, from the goods received.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent ot the United States is as tollows:
l. In a device ot the class described, the combination with a cash register trarne, of a display sign arranged tor movement into exposed position on the trame, a cash drawer, a. lever mounted on the drawer and arranged Ytor manipulation from the interior thereof, and a. means tor transmitting movement from the lever to the sign.
2. The combination with a cash register having a drawer, ot a lever pivotally attached to the drawer and having segment teeth, a shaft rotativcly mounted on the drawer, a pinion attached to the shaft and meshing with the said segment teeth, a bevel pinion attached to the said shaft, a tubular member rotatively mounted in the said cash register and formed with an elongated aperture, aV
second shait rotatively mounted on the drawer and slidably engaging in the tubular 1nembei', a bevel gear attached to the second shaft and meshing with the said bevel pinion, a pin attached to the second shaft and engaging the said elongated aperture t'or transmiting rotation trom the second shaft in any extended position to the tubular member, and display signs connected with the tubular member tor motion upon motion of the tubular member.
3. In a device of the class described, a coin receiver bowl, another bowl member movably mounted therein, a plate member movably mounted in the second bowl, lights arranged in the said bowls, display signs arranged for motion into and out ot' displaying positions, a. means for lighting the said lights upon depression ot the plate member, and a. means for displaying the said signs upon depression ot' the second mentioned bowl.
In testimony whereof I have atlixed my signature.
