Application filed April 21;, 1927. Serial l lo. 1%,623.
The present inventioi'r appertains to an attachment for cultivators and the like and aims to provide an attachn'ient of this nature which will function etliciently as a lifter, the parts of which are readily adjustable and easy of manipulation.
it still further very iii'iportant object of the invention resides in the provision of a lifter attachment for a cultivator of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable in use, con'iparatively simple in its construction, strong and durable, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appearas the description procoeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
in the drawing Figure l is a side elevation of the attachment embodying the features of our inven tion,
Figure 2 is a top plan view theremf figure 3 is a detail elevation of a rotatable standard used in the attachment.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes an elongated tongue having a fixture 6 fastened to the forward end thereof by suitable fastening elements '1? and formed with a yoke portion 8 engageable with a rear; portion of a cultivator or the like. A frame 9 is mounted at the rear end of the tongue 5 and includes forwardly diverging side members 10, the forwarcl ends of which are fastened to the tongue 5 as at 11.
hearing brackets. 12 are carried by the rear ends of the side members 10 and have journaled therein a transverse shaft 14. A cross member is attached or formed integrally with the bearing brackets 12 and extends forwardly of the shaft 14-. A post 16 rises from the cross member 15 between the center thereof and one end thereof. it crank 16" rises from the shaft 14: and cranks 17 extend downwardly and forwardly from the ends of the sh aft 14-. A longitudinal bar 18 connects the frame 9 with the cross member 15 and has fulcrumed thereon a lever 19 having a detent 2O engageable with the teeth of an arcuate rack section. 21. A link 22 is engaged with the crank 16 and with the lower end of the lever 19.
A pair of lister beams are denoted by numerals 23 and are hingedly connected at their forward ends as at 2 1- to the lower ends of cranks 1?. Suitable lister elements 25 are mounted by means 26 to the beams 23 at proper intervals 'lhcse beams 23 extend rearwardiy. it is apparent that any number of the beams 23 may be used with a corresponding number of the cranks 17. The two row lister attachment has been disclosed herein merely by way of eran'iple.
An axle 28 is carried by the lower end of the standard 29 which is journaled in the frame 9 vertically thereof. Disk wheels 30 are journaled on the ends of the axle 28. A crank 31 is lined to the upper portion of the standard 29 and has an apertured end engageable by a hook 32 which is loosely mounted on the tongue at 33. A pair of cranks 84: are mounted at the upper extremity of the standard 29 and projects in opposite directions. ltods 35 are engaged with the cranks and extend reaii'wardly therefrom being slidahle through brackets carried by posts 16 Obviously when. the hook 32 is disengaged from its crank 31. the rods 35 may be moved back and forwardly for the purpose of turning the standard 29 and steering the disk wheels 30 whereby the lister implement may be maintained in a straight line.
lit will be apparent that the depth at which the lister elements will dig may be controlled by the manipulation of the lever 19 which will cause the rocking of shaft l t to swing the cranks 17 so as to force the forward ends of the lister beam 23 downwardly or upwardly as may be desired depending upon the desired digging depth of the list-er implement.
It is thought that the construction, advantages, and utility of the invention will now be clearly understood by those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof. The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in detail merely by way of example since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description. it will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed. or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new is An attachment for a cultivator comprising a tongue, a frame at the rear end of the tongue,
a standard journaled vertically in the frame, Wheels mounted at the lower end of the standard, a crank extending from an intermediate portion of the standard above the frame and having an opening in its extremity, a hook pivotally mounted on'the tongue and engageable in the opening of the crank, a double crank extending in opposite directions from the upper end of the standard, a pair of rods 10 engaged with the extremities of the double crank, apost rising from the frame, a pair of brackets on the post inclining downwardly and outwardly and terminating in sleeves through which the rods are slidable, and the rear ends of the rods being bent downwardly and PIOXidGd with handles.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures.
