The admission ofluid under pressure to cylinder 46 is controlled by an electromagnetically operated valve 59 provided with a movable valve element 60.0perating in a c lvinder 61. .A piston-like portion 62 of va ve 60, in the position shown, covers a port 63 which is connected with a pipe 64 and through a pipe 65 to the pressure tank 36. A port 66 is here shown above the valve member 62 and this port communicates with a pipe 67 leading to cylinder 4.6il A passage 69 in valve member 60 through w lich port 66 may be placed in communication with a-pipe 70, provides for drainage when the valve 62 is in its closed position. Drainage is also provided below valve member 60 by mea-ns of a drain pipe 71. Pipe 64 may if desired be provided with a hand operated valve 72 whlch under normal vconditions would be open. The valvemember 60 is adapted' to be raised from the position shown in the drawing to its open position by means of an electromagnet or solenoid 73.
The electromagnetically operated valve 59 is controlled by a fluid pressure operated Switch` here shown as including stationary contacts 74, 75 provided respectively witlu spring fingers 76, 77. Assuming the position ot the arts to be as shown in the drawing and it being desired to start up the prime mover trom a distant control station, the switch 96 isthrown tov its closed position. .lhe motor 33, being then supplied with current, operates the pump v37 and it the pressure in the tank 36 is low, brings that pressure up to a desired predetermined amount. llnasmuch as the valve 109 i\s,in Lthe drawing shown in its closed -position it is assumed that the pressure in rllhe duid pressure operated switch 73 may' be adjusted so that the. torce o t its restraining spring 33 will be overcome at a pressure ,somewhat higher than that at which valve 109 is opened. llhen this predetermined pressure has been reachedv in tank 36 the piston36 begins to rise and spring Contact linger 76 trictionally engages the contact 78 and temporarily stops the upward movement ot Contact 73. As the pressure rises still'turther the stationary 'lriction between linger 76 and .contact 73 is overcome more or less suddenly and contact 73 moves a short distance toward its closed position. 'l'his cycle oi operations is repeated until contact' 73 is fully in contact with stationary contacts 74, 7 5. 'lhe arrangement is therelore such that the contact 73 is raised by a series ot jerks so that it will bridge the contact fingers 76, 7 7 with a quick movement.

As the valve 3 moves'toward its open position the tube 10S of the load limiting device will be moved toward engagement with the adjustable nut 108 and the upward travel of the collar 51 will be limited to an eXtentdependent upon the position of the nut 108. It will be noted that even though piston 45 has been raised to a limiting position to move the control finger 49 in a counter-clockwise directionthe load limiting means may, depending upon the adjustment, return the control finger 49 in a clockwise direction a predetermined amount inasmuch as the crank will then compress spring 57, the end of crank 50having a slidable connection with rod 52. Simultaneously however, with the operation hereinbefore described the turbine will also be under speed control because as the speed rises the spindle 22 will begin' to move downwardly at a predetermined speed and the block 33 at the end of the floating lever 20 will act against spring 120, and through collar 121 actingagainst the end 29 of tube 31 will move the regulating valve -13 a predetermined amount out of its open position toward its mid position or clear to the closed position to properly control the openng of valve 3 in accordance with the spee It will/ therefore be seen that by a4r single initiating operation the turbine is automatically started and brought toits normal runningv condition under the control of its governor.A It is of course apparent that the operation would be the same if the initiating operation had been lthe closure of the float actuated switch 97.

relay 100 may be energized ,to open. con
. ductor'95, or the switch 124 may be opened.
This energization of relay 100 may of course also occur by reason of some abnormal condition in the control system. Opening of conductor 95 of course deenergiz'es solenoid 73 and the Valve member 60 drops (in the instance shown, actuated by gravity) to the uid pressure is cut off from cylinder 46.
` 'Spring 47 then acts` td rotate crank 43 in a counter-clockwise direction and arm 48. acting against spring 58 causes the. stop 53 on the rod 52 to rotate the control finger .49 -in a clockwise `direction to depress the vcollar 5l so that the regulating valve. 13 will be operated to its closed position.
Fluid will then be admitted Vto eyhnder 11 .Contact with the underside of the pawl 42 ythe latter will be swung in a clockwise direction thereby moving the regulating valve 7 a predetermined amount toward its mid position. The supply of fluid under pressure to the sei'vo1notor is thereby restricted and the servo-motor moves the valve 3 at a slower rate thus preventing violent closure thereof. Further movement of the valve 3 toward closed position permits thepawl 42 to snap into the notch 41 again locking the valve in its closed position as shown in the drawing. At the same time the counterclockwise movement of pawl 42 returns the regulating valve to the position shown in which the port to pipe 17 is fully open thus causing the servo-motor to firmly seat the valve 3. The pawl42 will then snapinto the notch 41 again locking the valve 3 in its closed position as shown on the drawing.
It should be understood that it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact details shown and described, forI obvious modifications may occur to persons skilled in the art.

1. In combination, a prime mover, means for controlling the admission of operating fluid to said prime mover, a governor, responsive to the speed of said prime mover, for said controlling means, including a servo-motor and a regulating valve therefore, means for holding said regulating valve in a position corresponding to the closedv position of said controlling means,
