FARE INDICATOR.
`Application filed .anuary 13, 1927, Serial No. 160,842. and in Germany January 15, 1926.
yMy invention yrelates'to improvements in tare indicators, and more particularly 1n fare indicators ont' the type in which, in addi tion to the mechanism for :indicating the charges made inL accordance with the length of the way and with thetime the cab has been waiting, Aregistering mechanism isfprovided for indicating the totals of the said charges. In order to permit the separate registration of the total ofthe charge made forl the'time the cab has beenwaiting, it
has been proposed to provide separate registering mechanism for the said total, which.
separate registering mechanism is thrown .into operation by rocking the tax drum `connected with the usual fiagf into a special position' for recording the charge for the time the cab has been 'waiting. l It in apparatus of this class the driver does not set the tax drum in the properposition the time ofV waiting is not recorded. Therefore, in order to be independent of ythe driversetting the tax drum, it has been proposed to 'prokvide rictional coupling membersfor throwing the yregistering mechanism fork the chargeslnade for the time the lcab hask been ywaiting into and out of operation whenthe Lin which the saidobje'ctions are yobViated,
and with this object in view my invention `consists in connectingy the said registering mechanism recording fthe charge `for the time the cahhas been waiting with the clock' work as well as with the mechanism indicating the fares for the drives, the lastnamed mechanism being connected with the registering mechanism so as to move the pawl of the 'pawl and ratchet mechanism in the reverse direction .in which vno values are transmitted thereto. Thus, the said registering mechanism isy operated by the clock work only when the driving mechanism operated by the movement of the vehicle has a velocity smallerthanthat of the clock operated mechanism. In, thisconstruction the registering mechanism indicating the. charge made for the time the cab has been waiting operates'independently of the taxi diagrammatic Sectio lcharged for :the drives.
drum. Further, frictional coupling members are not needed.
For they purpose of explaining the invention an .example embodying the same hasy been ,shownk in the accompanying drawing Von the Aline 5--5 of F ig. l,
'Fifa 6, is a top plan view of Fig. 5,
Fig. 7, is a sectional elevation taken on the Lline 7 7 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 8 is a g nal elevation on theline 8&8 of Fig. 1.
In the' example shown in the drawing the fare lindicator comprises a worm shaft 1 adapted to be rotated from a rotary part vof the vehicle andconnectedwith gear Wheels 3 and Lt through the intermediary of aworm gearing 2. The gear rwheel 4 is connected with a" cam wheel'by means of a pawl and ratchet mechanism 5, and the said cam wheel `is connected with the indicating mechanism and registering mechanism for the fare The clock work 1s connected with a gear wheel 7, and the said gear wheel is. likewise connected with the cam wheel 6 by means of a gear wheel 8 and a pawl and ratchet mechanism 9. Thus rthe clock work Voperates the` cam wheel 6 whenthe cab stops or its velocity is so small that the clockwork drives the cam wheel 6 at a higher yvelocity than the gear wheel 4.
For registeringV the total of the charges recorded by means of the clock work and. made for the time the cab has been waiting, a registering mechanism 11 is provided,
lwhich is adapted to be operated by means of pawl and .ratchet mechanism, as is known in the art. For driving the saidregistering mechanism` 11 a. differential gearing 10 is provided which includes bevelvgears 15 and 17 loosely mounted on a shaft 18 and a. gear wheel 16 meshing with the bevel gears 15 and 17 and rotatably mounted on an arm 2l tired to the shaft 1S, The. wheel. It?? CII is fixed to a gear Wheel 19 meshing with the `rear Wheel 3, and the bevel gear 17 s connected with a `gear Wheel 2() meshing with the gear Wheel 8. The shaft 18 is Connected with the paWl and ratchet meeh- :mism forming a part ot the registering mechanism 11 by means of gear Wheels 12, 13 and 141-.
The operation of the :apparatus is as follows:
The cam 6 is4 adapted to be operated either from the worm rearing Q eonnecjed with one 'rom the of the Wheels of the rehieleg or n'heel T which, as shown in 2, may he or" two diamete the part of smaller size liieing eonneeted with the elo'cl; Work. The oieration ot vthe Said cam known in the aft. nnd l, deem it unnecese-ary to denerihe the saine in detail. From the gearv Wheel 3 rotary movement is transmitted through the intermediar)v of the rear Wheel 19 to the liecel gear hy means: ot Whien the gear njheel 1Q and the arm Q1 are made to rerolre thusv imparting; rotarj7 morement to the shaft 1S'y Which rotar)T movement is tranemitteril tiirough the gear n'heeln 12. 13 und to the penl and ratehet mechanism Connected With the registering' meehaniem 11. The direetion of the rotary movementtime` imparted to the shaft 18 is euch that no moreL ent is imparted by the said pand and ratchet mechaniem tothe regi/@ring meehanism 11, so that the numeral- Wheele 22 are not ai'lraneed. 1f the eab siepe, the indi.- eation of the 'rare is made by the eloelworl-, the rotary movement oi the gear Wheel 8 heing transinittfrd through the gear Wheel 2O to the hevel gearing 1T. By the said beyel gearing' the Shatt- 18 rotated in a direction opposite'to that imparted to the shaft by means of the gear njheel 19. Therefore the rotary movement imparted to the shaft 18 from the clock mechanism is transmitted to tlie'reeietering' mechanism 11 in a direction Vfor advancingd the numeral wheeliv Q2.
While in describing the im'ention reference has l'iien made to a inirticulai" f ample embodying the Same i irish it to he underr`f-'ood that'n'iy invention is not limited to the yconstruction shown in the drawing, and that various changea may lie made in the reneral arrangement ol the apparatus and the congruction et its parte Without depri-ling from kthe invention.
