Description

Sept. 18, 1928. 7 I G. OESS CONSTRUCTION OF 'rruxcxsv 0F s'fREET Rum-us "fined March '7, 192a harnej.

CONSTRUCTION OF TRACKSOF STREET- RAILWAYS.
Application filed Maroh7, 1928, Serial ."ll'o. 259,651 and in Germany March 19, 1927.
My invention relates to improvements in the construction of tracks of street railways, and more particularly to tracks in which blocks of concrete located alongside the rails and at both sides thereof, are provided, which blocks are rigidly connectedwit-h the rails into a coherent body. The object of the improvements is to provide track of this type which can be manufactured at low cost, and which is constructed so that it does not injure the road-bed; Withthis object in View my invention consists in providing elongated reinforcing members of concrete or the like alongside both sides of each rail, which are rigidly connected with the rail to provide an independent body ada-ptedto be placed on the road-bed from the surface thereof, the reinforcing members extending at their top sides to the surface of the road bed, and the combined rail and reinforcing members being capable of oscillation under the weight of the cars in dependently of the road-bed. The said oscillations are not in terfered with by the road-both so that the said road-bed is not destroyed by the said oscillations. In order to reduce the cost of the combined rail the reinforcing bodies of concrete or the like are secured'to the rail located *etween the sameby means of yokes passed below the foot of the rail and having upwardly projecting ends embedded in the reinforcing members. i
In order that my invention maybe more clearly understooch two examples embodying the same have been shown in the accompanying drawing in which p 1, is a sectional elevation showing the combined rail, and
Fig. 2, is similar sectional elevation showing a modification.
In the example shown in Fig. 1 at both sides of the rail a elongated members I) and c of concrete are provided, which either extend to the surface of the road-bed or to apart near the said surface, in which case the members are coated by a layer 70 of asphalt or the like. The member I) and c are rigidly connected with the rail a by means of yokes 03 disposed below the footof the rail and having their ends 6, bent upwardly and into the body of the members Z) and c. The yokes are fixed to the rail by means of clamping plates. 9 engaging the top face of the foot of the rail and clamped .into engagement therewith by means of members 6 and c are inclined downwardly from the web of the rail and outwardly, so that the material of the roadbed ispressed. together below the rail and forced to the middle thereof.
I claim:
1. In a track a rail, a pair of reinforcing blocks located alongside said rail at opposite sides thereof and each block extending with top face to the surface of the road, and
means passing under the railfor securing i said reinforcing blocks to said rail, the combined railand blocks providing a beam capable of oscillation independently of the roadbed.
2. In a track, a rail, a pair of reinforcing blocks located alongside said rail at opposite sides thereof and each block extending with its top face to the surface of the road, and yokes passed below the foot of the rail and in engagement with said blocks for fiX- ing said blocks to the rail, the combined rail and blocks providing a beam capable of os cillation independently of theroad-bed.
' 3. In a. track, a rail, a pair of reinforcing bloclrs located alongside said rail at opposite sides thereof and each block extending with its top face to the surface of the road, anchoring members within said block, and yokes passed below the foot of said rail and connected to said anchoring members for se curing said blocks to said rail, the combined rail and blocks pro 'iding a beam capable of oscillation independently of the road-bed.
ll In a track, a rail, a pair of reinforcing bloclts'located alongside said rail at opposite sides thereof and each block extending with its top face to the surface of the road,
'yokes passed below the foot of the rail and in engagement with said blocks for fixing 5 tion independently of the road-bed.
5. In a track, a rail, :1, pair of reinforcing blocks located alongside said rail at opposite sides thereof and eachblook. extending? with its top face to the surface of the road,. 10 said blocks extending with their side faces beyond the foot ofthe rail and having their bottom faces inclined downwardly and outwardly, and means for securing said reinforcing blocks to said rail, the combined rail and blocks groviding a beam capable of oscillation in ependently of the road-bed.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature. 1
