. `seat they areV unwieldyin transportation.`
`The important` objects. ofthe present. invention are to provide an improved. form of vlinemens chair so construetedthat the vari- Oils parts may vbe folded together in. a corn.-V
pact manner;` 4to provide a construction so arrangedthat when the parts are folded they may be hel'd' in folded position by 4an ordif' nary strapon thelike; and to provide animprovedo deyice ofthiskindg so arranged that .when unfolded it is rigidly held in unfolded or opera-tive position.
lVith the above objects in view the invention consists in general of certain novel de? tails of construction and combinations of parts `hereinafter fully described, specifically claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying` drawings wherein: l i igure 1 is a perspective view of the comi plete device as it appears in use.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the `device in folded position.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the device folded. Y
Figure 4 is a detail View on line4-4 of Fig. 1 showing only the seat and a bracket.
An elongated rectangular seat constitutes the base or foundation of the device and is provided at each end with a centrally disposed notch 11. Extending beneath the seat at each side of each notch is a horizontal leg 12 of an L-shaped bracket having a vertical leg 13, the horizontal leg being secured to the seat by rivets or bolts It Will be observed that the legs 13 are spaced apart and adjacent the bottom of each pair of legs is a U-shaped clip 15 which embraces the legs 13 and is secured thereto to hold said legs in proper spaced relation. The closed sideeof the clip 15 faces inwardly, that is, toward the opposite end of the seat. At thev to of each pair of legs is a similar clip `16, thec Vosed side of `which faces outwardly. Extending across the space between each pair of legs is a pivot 17, the pivot at one end being Vhigher than the pivot at the other end and upon which are mounted the hangers for the seat. Each of these hangers consists. of a straight 'lower portion 18 whichts between thelegs `13 and when moved to vertical'position bears against the closedfends of, the clipsjl and 16. Above the legs, thisV hanger is continued upwardly in an olf-set portion 19, above` which againthe hanger is continued upwardly in an iii-set portion 2 0 .and is bent down into, .Uf ,p
shape as at 21. From the bend 21` the hanger continues downwardly in spaced parallel-rethe part 19is oil-setas at 23. Infthisman# `lation to thel part20'as at- 22 and :opposite ner the two hangers are open` at the bottom Y,
between the parts 19 and "23.*, Betweenythe parts 2 O.and22 extend pivot bolltsZkwherecna-re mounted the wheels 2,5 for running on the messenger wire 26. Pivoted' to one part 20 -is a tie-bar 27' wl'ii'ch is secured to the other part 20 by a bolt and thumb nut 28 when the hangers are swungroutwardly to vertical or operative position. Obviously when the device is erected as shown in Figure 1 it may be hung over the messenger wire 26 withoutn diiiiculty.
Secured to each of the parts 19 and 23 on each hanger is a plate 29 having upwardly inclined notches 30, the notches in one plate being aligned opposite those inthe other plate so that bolts 31 may be secured in any desired pair of notches by means of a thumb nut .32. Usually but one of these bolts is used at one end of the chair and on this bolt is arranged'a. concave roller 33- so that the cable 34 may be led up over this roller from the ground into convenient position for the linemen to suspend the cable from the rnesf senger wire 26 by means of links 35.
From aninspection of Figures 2 and 3 it will be seen that the tie-bar 27 is olf-set in order to clear the off-set portion 19 of the standard to which it is pivoted. By loosening the clamp nut v28, the tie-bar canbe swung upwardly and the hanger lcan then be folded down parallel to .the jseat 10, the remainingA hanger 4being folded on top thereof as clearly shownV in Figure 3. 4An ordinary leather strap 36 maybe used to hold the parts in position for transportation.
What we claim is: 1. A linemans chair comprising a seat, brackets positioned at opposite ends of said seat, hangers pivoted to said bracketsand p foldable oversai'd seat, and rollers carried,V
by said hangers and adapted (tok engage a messenger Wire.
2.1i. linemans chair comprising a seat, brackets positioned at opposite ends of said seat, hangers pivoted to said brackets, one of said hangers being pivoted to its bracket at a greater distance from said seat than the other hanger whereby the hangers may be folded one over the other on vsaid seat, and rollers carried by said hangers for engagement on a' messenger wire.
3. A linemans chair com )rising av seat `brackets positioned at opposite ends of said seat, hangers pivoted to said brackets, rollers carried bv saidhangers and adapted to engage a messenger wire and meansto detach` Vably secure said hangers rigidly in position 5.`A linemans chair comprising aseat, brackets positioned at oppositey endsof said seat, hangers pivoted to said brackets, rollers carried by said hangers and adapted to engage a messenger wire,7`clips on said brackets orming'stops to limit the movement of the hangers in one direction abontsaid pivots, a tie-bar pivoted to one of said hangers, and means to detachably secure the tie-bar to the remaining hanger to prevent folding movement of said hangers.
'6. A linemans chair comprising a seat, brackets positioned at opposite ends of said seat, hangers pivoted to said brackets and provided with an intermediate `oflset portion,`rollers carried by said hangers for engagement with a messenger wire, a tie-bar pivoted to one of said hangers and having an oil-set portion to permit the bar to clear the off-set portion of the hanger'to which it is tures.
