The circuit controller is arranged to interrupt the starting circuit as the main line circuit is closed and to maintain the interrup tion in the starting circuit until the main line circuit has been opened and the car has come to rest. Upon cessation of the flow of current in the main line circuit the controller is arranged to provide a retarded or delayed circuit closing action so that the starting circuit cannot be utilized until after the lapse of a period of time following the stopping of the car at a station.

It will be seen that the relay 9 is of the holding or stick type in that the energize.- tion of either coil 7 or 8 lifts a corresponding armature 29 or 30 into engagement with sets of contacts 31 or 32 in a branch conductor 33 which serves to shunt out the push button circuit closers and maintain the coil circuit closed until interrupted by a suitable car stopping deviceynot shown. The armatures 29 and 30 are conveniently connected-to a reversing switch, not shown, for controlling the duration of rotation of .the motor. It will be seen that once the coil 22 has been en'- ergized the contact member 15 is lifted and a starting circuit cannot again beclosed until the flow of current through the main control switch relay has ceased. To achieve this the piston is pro-.v vided with an inverted leather cup-shaped disk or member 34 and the cylinder 28 is provided with an air inlet port'35 controlled by an adjustable needle valve screw 36 by which the time interval required for the descent of the piston and the'closing of the gap- 25-inthe starting circuit can'be adjusted as desired."
It will be seen that with the construction described a time interval can be provided following the timewhen a car stops at a station and before the motor canagain be started to afford an opportunity ior the attendant to open the hatchway door.
