Description
UNITED STATES PATENT CnrEIoEo l GEORGE H. BURKE, OF SPRINGFIELD, VERMONT.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOY TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,317, dated October 5, 1875; application filed July 16, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. BURKE, of Springfield, in the State of Vermont, have invented a new and useful Portable Toy Tea- Table for children 5 and that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification and description.
The object of my invention is to provide a toy teatable which may be quickly taken apart, and the legs packed in a small pocket or space inside the top, in which is also arranged a tray to contain all the dishes and utensils required for setting or spreading the table complete, so Athat the dishes always accompany the table, and the latter may be quickly put together and spread at any time.
To this end my invention consists of a box having a hinged cover, and having` one or more pockets therein to contain the legs, each of said legs being provided with a screw at the upper end, which is turned into a threaded hole in the bottom of the box at each corner, to form the table. rIhe box is arranged with a tray inside, preferably made in compartments, in which are packed the toy dishes, knives and forks, table-spread, Ste., sucient to furnish and set the table complete.
Figure I is a perspective View of the table set up, with the hinged cover raised, showing the dish-tray inside, and also the pockets to receive the legs of the table when taken down and packed; and Fig. Il is a side view of one of the legs arranged with the screw to be attached to the table.
A represents a box of any desired size and depth, made to receive a tray, b, which is f1tted into the box snugly, so that the whole may be packed and shipped without danger of breaking the dishes contained in the tray 5 and I prefer to insert the partitions b in the tray, forming compartments, so that the different kinds of dishes may be kept apart as much as possible, to further lessen the danger of breakage in shipping. A space, c, is left each side the tray b, between the outside of the tray and the box A, in which space are packed the legs b, each of which is provided with a screw, f, in the upper end, which, when the table is to be set up, is turned into a threaded hole in the bottom of the box A near each corner.
The edge of the cover B may be made to project beyond the sides ofthe box'A to any distance, to give the proper appearance of an ordinary tea-table.
When shipped, everything requisite for the furnishing ofthe table, even to the spread or cloth, is packed in the tray, with the legs in the pockets e, and all carried safely without danger of breakage, and, when used, the tray, with all the articles therein, is lifted out of its place in the box A, and the legs are taken out of the pockets c, and screwed in place in the bottom of the box. rlhe top B is then shut down, and the spread or cloth taken from its compartment and placed on top, the dishes placed thereon, and the tray set aside temporarily while the table is being used.
This furnishes a very convenient and compact arrangement for children 5' and, as the dishes, knives and forks, spread, and napkins all have a place in the tray, no article is liable to get lost, as is the case when the dishes are kept separate from the table; and the whole may be taken apart, packed away, or
set up again very quickly and easily, even by the smallest child.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- 1. A portable toy table, consisting of the box A, provided with the cover B,tl1e pockets for packing the legs, and the legs b, arranged to be screwed into the bottom of the box, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the box A, provided with the cover B and pockets e, the removable tray b, and the legs b, arranged to be screwed into the bottom of the Abox, substantially as and for the purpose described.
GEORGE H. BURKE.
