POWDER PUFF.
Application filed August 17, 1927. Serial No. $213,559.
My invention relates to new and improved. powder puff.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a powder puff of improved con- 5 structio'n and which shall require the use of a minimum amount of material.
Other objects of my invention will be set forth. in the following description and drawing which illustrate a 1:)"eferred embodiment thereof, it being und rstood that the above general statement of the objects of my invention is intended merely to generally explain the same and not to limit it in any manner.
Fig. l is a front elevation.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
Powder puffs have hitherto been made with either circular or square contours. This resulted in using up a great deal of unnecessary material, because the user ordinarily held the powder puff at or near the center thereof so that only about one-half of the powder pull was actually utilized at any given time.
According to the present invention, the powder pull l i made of substantially triangular shape, the outer ed,,e of the puff being preferably curved. Hence, the putt has, generally speaking, a fan-shape.
The puff is provided with a loop L made of suitable ornamental fabric and it may be provided upon the outside with ornamental thread T.
The shape of the puff makes it possible for the user to hold it at the apex thereof,
thus giving a large area of material suitable for use in applying the powder. This area is substantially as large as the available area in a completely circular puff having a radius equal to that of the fan-shaped puff illustrated herein.
The long side face of the pufi facilitates the ap alication of powder to the side of the nose 0 the user.
The construction of the puff is likewise which is normally held in her hand.
superior for sanitary purposes because the fingers of the user are always placed upon the same part of the puff, namely the apex thereof, and this part is never applied to the face.
On the other hand, in using a puff of known construction, there is absolutely no assurance that the part of the puff which contacts with the face of the user has not been previously held.
I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, but it is clear that numerous changes and omissions could be made without departing from its spirit.
The use of the thread T at the apex portion of the puff is advantageous because it prevents the use of that part of the puff which is normally held by the user. Hence, it is practically impossible for the user to apply to her face that part of the puff The thread on the outer surface of the handhold portion of the puff makes the outer surface thereof different from the outer surface of the powder-applying portion of the putt, so that said hand-hold portion is unsuited for applying powder. However, the invention is not limited. to this specific construction for preventing the user from using. the hand-hold portion for applying the powder.
I claim A powder puff of substantially triangular form, said puff being made of soft material throughout, the apex portion of said puff constituting a hand-hold portion, the remainder of said puff constituting a powder-applying portion, the outer surface of said hand-hold portion having threads thereon to render said outer surface of the handheld portion unsuitable for applying powder.
In testimony whereof I affix my-signature.
LOUIS L. RAYNOR.
