FITTING.

This invention relates to a pipe fitting, the
general object of the invention being to provide socket members in the walls and floor of a building to which gas and other lines are connected and to which gas stoves and the like can be connected by ipes which are detachably connected with the socket members and can be easily removed when the stove or other device is not being used.
Another object of the invention is to provide hinge covers for the socket members which will close the same when the connectin g pipes have been removed and thus make a neat appearance and prevent dirt and dust getting in the parts.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangementof the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Fi ure 1 is a sectional view of a socket mem er.
Figure 2 is an elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a View of a T-coupling.
Figure 4 is a sectional view showing how the invention is arranged in a wall between two rooms.
Figure 5 is a view of a nipple for use with a floor plug.
Figure 6 is a sectional view showing the floor arrangement in use.
Figure 7 is a view of an elbow.
Figure 8 is a sectional view showing the elbow arrangement in use.
In these views, 1 indicates a socket which is entirely screw threaded and is formed with a face plate 2, a hinged flap or door 3 being arranged to cover the end of the socket member when the same is not being used. The socket member is adapted to be placed in a hole formed in the base board or other part of a wall or in the floor of a building with the faceplate overlapping the wall face or floor. The pipes leading the gas to the socket member has a part threaded to fit into the socket and the interior of this part of the ipe is also threaded to receive a pipe or tu e which is adapted to lead the gas to the stove or other fixture. Figure 3 shows a T 4 which is used to connect two socket members to a supply pipe 5. These socket members are placed in the walls A of two rooms and two of the ends of the T are threaded, as at 5, to engage the threads in the socket members and its nipple 6 is interiorly threaded to receive the threaded end of the supply pipe 5. As will be seen the T is located between the partition walls and is therefore hidden from view. Its ends are interiorly threaded, as at 7, to receive the threaded end of a pipe or tube 8 which'is adapted to be connected to a stove or other fixture. When the fixture is not being used the pipe 8 is removed and a plug, such as shown at 9, is threaded in the coupling and then the flap 3 is closed, as shown in the left hand part of Figure 4. TVhen the device is to be placed in a floor, a straight nipple 10 is used, as shown in Figures 5 and 6, the threaded end of this nipple engaging the socket member which is placed in the floor .(3 and this nipple 10 is connected with the supply pipe 5*. Its threaded end is threaded interiorly to receive the pipe 8 which is connected with the stove or other fixture.
When but one socket member is used, as in Figure 8, an elbow pipe 11 is used to connect the socket member with the supply pipe, as shown in Figure 8. This elbow is threaded interiorly to receive the pipe 8 which is connected with the stove or other fixture and is also connected with the supply pipe 5". 7
From the foregoing it will. be seen that the connections are all hidden from view and the connecting pipe can be easily atmake changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
