It is within the province of the disclosureto improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes -in the precise embodiment of the4 invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, wit-hout departing from the spirit of the invention.

-The numeral 1 marks avs'upport in the form of a tubular casing, connected by a bracket 2 to a measuring tank 3, although vthe casing 1 might be supported otherwise. A tubular guard 4 extends between the upper part of the casing 1 and the upper part of the measuring tank 3. In its opposite sides, the casing has large', Vvertically elongated openings 5. There are smaller openings 6 in the casing 1, located above the large openings 5. The openings 5 and 6 may be covered by transparent plates 7 mounted in the casing 1. first roller 8A is journaled in the casing 1 at one corner thereoff, as shown in Figure 4. A second roller 9 is journaled in the casing 1 in diagonally opposite relation to the roller 8.' The rollers 8 and 9 may be called receiving rollers, because the charts or tapes hereinafter described, are wound about them. l A guide roller 10 is mounted in the casing 1 opposite tothe roller 9. The guide roller 11 is journaled in the casing in diagonally opposite Irelation to theroller 10, and opposite to the 4roller 8. A roller 12 is journaled in the casing and is located between the rollers 9 and 11. All ofthe rollers 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 9, 1925. Serial No. 61,515.
are vertically disposed. Achart in the form of a broad tape 14 is provided. The tape 14 is wound at its ends about the rollers 8 and 9. The tape 14 is extended about the roller 10, and then across the interior of the casing 1, as shown in Figure 4, the tape `passing about theroller 12, and about the roller 11 to the roller 8. Figure-2 shows that there is a vertical scale 15 on the outside of the casing 1, the sca-le reading downwardly, and being located adjacent to 'one edge of the large opening 5. The tape or chart 14 moves horizontally across the open-l ing 5. As shown in Figure 7, there are vertical lines of numerals 16, on that tape or chart 14. The lines of numerals shown at 16 are adapted to be exposed one at a time through the opening 5. A narrow tape or chart 17 is located above the broad tape 15 and is mounted on t- he rollers 8, 11, 12, 9
and 10 as shown in Figure 4 in connection with the tape 14. Any suitable means 18 may be provided, for rotating. the rollers 8 and 9, so as to cause the tapes 14 and 17 to inove horizontally, thereby to causethe lines of numerals 16 on the tape 14 to register scale 15.0n the casing 1.. The numerals in the lines on the tape 14 are alined horizontally with the various graduations of the scale 15. lThe tapes 14 and .17` move in consonance and there is a line of numerals 16 on the tape 14 foreach of the numerals 100 on the tape 17.
The numeral 19 marks a iieXible screen or curtain which moves vertically in operative relation to the horizont-ally movable tapes 17 and 14. The screen or curtain has openings 20 which expose, one at atime, the numerals 16 on the tape 14 at the respective sides of the casing 1. In its intermediate portion7 the screen or curtain 19 is formed into a bight 21. One side ofthe big'ht 21 passes ldownwardly around the horizontal roller 22 journaled on the easing 1 at the bottom thereof. From the roller 22, the curtain or screen 19 passes upwardly? in front of the broad tape 14, and behind the narrow tape 17, and, thence, downwardly about a guide roller 23 mounted horizontally 2 l Y 1,680,631l Y in the casing 1 at the upper end thereof. The opposite side of the bight 21 is extended horizontally beneath a horizontal guide roller 24 journaled on the casing 1, and thence upwardly around a guide roller 25 similarly supported, the screen or curtain .passing upwardly to and about a guide roller 26 mounted horizontally in the upperA portion of the casing l. The free ends of the screen or curtain 19 carry weights 27.
The bight 21 in the curtain or screen 19 is connected to a yoke 28 with which is united .the lower end of a flexible element 29, ex-
tended upwardly about a Vertical sheave 30 journaled in the top of the casing 1, and thence, about a horizontal sheave 31 likewise supported in `the top of the casing, the flexible element being extended through the tubular guard 4 and about a drum 32,` the flexible element being connected to the drum 32. The drum 32 rotates with a drum 33, the drums 32 and 33 being rotatable on a shaft 34 carried in the upper portion of the measuring tank 3. A flexible element 36 is Wound at one end about the drum 33 and is secured thereto. The flexible element 36 extends downwardly into the measuring tank 3 and is connected to a float 35 cooperating withthe liquid in the measuring tank The diameter of the drum 32 remains unchanged, but drums of different diameters may be substituted for the drum 33, depending upon the distance that the float 35 has to move in the measuring tank 3. Not every measuring tank has a float like the float 35, and it will be understood that the flexible element 36 may be connected to any kind of a mechanism which is responsive to the changes of level in the liquid in the tank 3. If the measuring tank is visible andV above ground, the float 35 generally is used, but if the measuring tank is below ground, or is of a different construction than that shown in the drawings, any mechanical equivalent of the float 35 may be used for operating the flexible element 36.
When a predetermined amount of gasoline or other liquid is drawn from the measuring tank 3, the float 35 moves downwardly, a pull `is exerted. on the flexible element 36, motion is transmitted by way of the drums 33 and 32, and the flexible element 29, to the bight 21 of the screen 19, the screen'being caused to move vertically, and the-opening 20 being caused to disclose the appropriate one of the numerals 16 on the tape 14. Thus, for instance, in Figure 2, it is made evident that five gallons of gasoline, indicated on the scale 15 will cost $1.00, if the price per gallon of gasoline is 20 as indicated by the numeral 100 on the tape 17 which is Visible through the opening 6. When the measuring tank 3 is full, the opening 20 in the ,L screen or curtain-19 disappears out of sight/f" behind the narrow tape 17. The rollers 8 and 9 may be operated by the means indicated at 18 so as to bring the .appropriate line of numerals 16 on the tape 14 into registration with the opening 5 in the casing l, and, simultaneously, to bring the proper price numeral 100 on the tape 17 into registration With the opening 6. The numerals shown at 16 preferably are inscribed on both sides of the tape 14, and the rollers 10, 12 and 1l serve to reverse the tape 14, so that the numerals on either side of the tape are visible at one side of the casing 1 only. The weights 27 maintain the screen 19 taut, and operate the screen, when the flexible element 29 is slacked away, and when the bight 21 flattens out or moves downwardly.
What is claimed is s A mechanical movement including a frame, horizontal lower guides on the frame, horizontal upper guides on the frame, a first flexible element extended between the lower guides, thence upwardly to form side tions which are extended downwardly a out the upper guides to define free depending ends located between the side portions, weights on the depending ends of the first flexible element, an u wardly extended operating device connecte to the first flexible element at a point between the lower guides and mounted slidably upon the upper portion of the frame, a horizontally disposedl second flexible element extended in opposite directions across the side portions of the first flexible element at right angles thereto, the second flexible element being extended between the side portions of the first flexible element, means for supporting the second flexible element in position, and means for moving the second flexible element endwise with respect to the side portions of the first flexible element.
