POWDER BOX.
Application filed June la,
This invention relates to containers and has particular reference to a container for powder and a puff or applicator for applying the same.
The invention broadly comprehends a powderl box including a body, a removable outer cover, and means arranged within the open end of the body to permit of siftingof the powder therefrom, and to constituteI a supporting means for an applicator puff, which is maintained in closed relation to the sifting means to prevent accidental spillage of the powder.
More specifically the invention comprehends a container for powder including a body having anopen upper end, a friction slip cover adapted to engage thereover, and an inner friction tray telescopically mounted within the open endV having sifter openings and constituting means for supportingy a puff of a sufhcient size to fill the tray, whereby when the outer cover is applied the puff is j maintainedin a position to close the sifter openings for preventing spillage of the pow der therefrom.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a powder box including a body having an open upper end, a removable cup-sliaped tray mounted `within the upper open end having sifter openings, an applicator puff filling the tray, and an outer Y telescopic cover for closing the open end and maintaining the puff impinged against the bottom of the tray for closing the sifter v openings against accidental spillage of the powder. I
VThe invention aims as a still further object to provide a powder box of the'fcharacter set forth which is comparatively simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and which is highly efficient in its purpose.
lith the above recited and other objects in view, reference is had to the following specification andV accompanying drawings in which there is eXhibitedone example or embodiment of the invention which is inno way intended as a limitation upon the scope of the appended claims as it is to be clearly understood that variations and modifications which properly fall within the scope of said claims may be resorted to when found eX pedient. In the drawings- Figure 1 is a plan view of a powder bon constructed in accordance with the inven- 1926. Serial No. 116,180.
tion, with the outer cover removed and the applicator puff partly broken away;
Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken approximately on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, with the outer cover in superposed relation.
Referring to the drawings by characters Vof reference, 10 designates the body of a powder container which is closed by a bottom wall 11 and which is open at its upper end, the edge of the upper end being rolled inwardly to form a bead. A substantially cup-shaped tray 13 formed with an outwardly projecting peripheral flange 14, is designed to be telescopically associated with and frictionally fitted within the upper open end, the inward movement of the same being limited by the flange 14. The tray is provided with a bottom wall 15 having apertures 16 constituting sifter openings for discharging the powder from the body of the container. The tray also serves as a means for receiving an applicator puff 17 which is of a size to approximately fit the tray. The cover or lid 18 is adapted to telescope over the upper open end and frictionally engage the same and said cover further operates to completely house the puff and impinge its bottom face against the upper face of the tray bottom 15 so that the sifter openings 16 are closed against accidental spillage and wasting of the powder when the cover or lid is thus applied. When the cover or lid is removed, it is obvious that the powder may be sifted through the sifter openings upon the face of the puff and thus applied.
From the foregoing it will thus be seen that a powder boX has been devised which in addition to serving as a container for the powder, is equipped with means to facilitate the sifting of the same therefrom, which means also acts as a supporter for an applicator puff and which applicator puff also functions as a means for sealing the sifter openings against accidental discharge of the powder when the outer cover or lid is applied.
VVhat is claimed is:
1. A powder box, including a body having an open upper end, a friction cover therefor adapted to telescopically fit over said upper end, a tray adapted to frictionally and telescopically fit within said upper open end, said tray having sifter openings, and an applicator puif adapted to be arranged within the tray and of a suflioient Size to ll Said 4 tray, whereby when the friction cover is the tray and of a sufficient size to fill said tray, whereby when the friction cover is applied the face of the pui' covers and closes the sifter openings, the edge of the upper open end of the body being rolled inwardly to provide a bead Within Which the tray engages and the tray formed With an outwardly projecting annular flange of slightly less diameter than the outer diameter of per end of the body.
