Application led December 18,1926. Serial No. 155,760.
This invention relates "to a. bracket or hanger for use kon arn Stube yframes forming part of the equipment of an Axminster carpet loom. These brackets yprovide lbelarings for the yarn vspools and also provide -nieans by which the tube frames maybetdetachably connected tothetransportlng `Epattern chains. v f
It is zthe general object ,of my invention to improve the construction and-operation of the yielding attaching vhook by which `the bracket is secured lto thechain .and to improve the mounting thereof on the bracket.
W'ith this genera-l object in vlew, an important feature of my invention relates tothe provision of a hook so mounted that 1t is capable of slight transverse movement, tending toreduce the strain on the hook and bracket as the tube frame chan es its angular position` with respect to t e pattern chains. Y
My invention further relates to arrangements and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
A preferred form of the invention is Shown in the drawings in whlch Fig. 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, showing my improved bracket;
Fig. 2 ris an end elevation of the bracket, v
lookingin the direction of the arrow 2 in Fig. 1;
Fig. 8 is a View similar to Flg. 1, but showing the bracket in detached position;
Fig. k4 is a sectional end elevation, taken along the line 4-4 in Fig. 3; and
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the hook.
Referring to the drawings, I have indicated a. tube frame comprising a. rectangular hollow tubular member 10 having a tube trame bracket secured in the end thereof by screws 11. The bracket comprises an up-y right'portion 12 having a bearing 13vffor a spool S at its upper end. The member 12 also has an oiset chain-engaging portion 14 adapted to extend upward between the links of a transporting pattern chain C. The lower end of the member 12 is offset, as indicated at 15, to provide a. lower attaching arm for the bracket, and an L-shaped member 16 is welded or otherwise secured to the member 12 to provide an upper attaching provided with a head 20 having.a'liook-likc yportionwhichengages the. chain C when the parts are yin `operative relation. The lower end y21 of the hook is ol'set or bent out- Wardly and 1s provided with a pivot stud ywhich extends loosely through an open- -ing23 1n theendfof the bracket. The stud 22-.extendsthrough`both members 12 and `16 Y a-nd issurrounded byaspring 24, held in position on thestud by a washer 25 and cross i pin 26. Above the koffset portion 21, the f fulgeof `the hook forms a point otV rocking ycontact with the member 12.
At this point the hookis also provided with an opening 28 through which extends a stud29, firmly secured in the end wall of the bracket. The. opening 28 is of such size that the stud 29 doesV not engage the hook 1n any position thereof, the stud being provided for engagement by a screw 31 in the clamp 32 by which the tube frame is carried downward to weaving position. If the bracket fails to disengage from the chain C, the arm 32 will be held upward by enga ement of the screw 31 with the stud 22, an a suitable stop motion will be put in operation to stop the loom.
The screw 31 also acts to disengage the hook 18 from the chain C by pressing the hook back against the member 12, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. Such movement of the hook is yieldingly resisted by the spring 24, whlch is thereby `placed under increased compression. It will bevunderstood that the stud 22 fits loosely enough in its opening 23 so that this outward and angular movement of the stud is permitted.
In the operation of the loom, the tube,
ment between the hook and the chain and causing unnecessary wear.
c With my improved construction, the hook 18 is free to swing between limits about the axis of the stud 22, moving from the full linel to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 4. The `limits of movement are dea slot l fined by the side walls of the slot 19. This provision of limited transverse 'movement for the upper end of the hook has been found of substantial advantage, as it relieves the structure of unnecessary strain particularly at the point of attachment of the spring tothe bracket, and also reduces the engaging' hook yhaving a point of rocking Wear upon the end 20 ofthe hook.
Having thus described my invention and the advantages thereof, I do not Wish to be limited to the details hereindisclosed otherwise than as set torth in the claims, but what I claim is: i
l. ln a tube frame, a bracket and a chainengaging hook mounted on said bracket, saidhook having a pivot stud with its axisdisposed perpendicularv to the vline of movement of the chain and extending through the end Wall of the bracket, and a coil spring .encircling said stud Within said bracket and held under compression on said stud.
2. ln a tube trame, a bracket and a chainengaeino hook mounted on said bracket said n lo j hook having pivotal movement about an axis travel of the chainya-nd having a rocking movement about a point of engagement 4of said hook and bracket above said pivotal axis,
3.' In'atube trame bracket, a rigid chainengagemcnt on said bracket and having its lowerend offset away from said bracket belovv said. point of. engagement, and a spring' effective to yieldingly draw said ofset lower end toward said bracket.
l. ln a tube iramevbracket, a rigid chain kengaging hook having a point of rocklngy engagement on said bracket and having yits lower end offset away from said bracket be-v loW said point ot engagement, and a spring effective to yieldingly draw said offset lower end toward said bracket, said spring being mounted entirely Within the tube trame but being removable with the bracket therefrom.
In testimony `whereof I have hereunto af- Xed my signature.
