UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
SAMUEL VJ. HYAT'I, OF GONNERSVILLE, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR T INDIANA LAMP COR- PORATION, 0F CONNERSVILLE, INDIANA, A CORPORATION.
LAMP-FOCUSING MECHANISM.
Application filed February 7, 1927. Serial No. 166,424.
This invention relates to a focusing device for lamps.
The chief object of this invention is to provide a simple focusing device for lights including a reflector and lamp.
The chief feature of the invention cons'sts in providing a lamp or lamp socket opening in the reflector and mounting the lamp on a shiftable member for relative movement in said opening.
The full nature of the invention will bev understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims:
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a central sectional view of a head light including the invention. Fig. 2 is a rear View of the invention.
In the drawings indicates a suitable support for a casing 11 having a closure 12 and containing a light bulb or lamp 13 and a reflector 14 suitably supported as by the bracket 15 carried by the casing.
The reflector 14 has an elongated central opening 16 and positioned therein and extendin oppositely therethrough herein is shown a lamp socket 17 supporting the lamp bulb 13. Said socket is carried by a ferrule 18 formed on and extending rearwardly from a strap 19 which is flexible laterally and which is curved to conform to the rear curvature of the reflector 14. The opposite ends of said strap 19 constitute the anchorages and herein the lower end is shown offset as at 20 to receive a spring21 suitably anchored at 22 to the reflector or the casing if desired. The upper end of the strap 19 is apertured as at 23 to receive a hook 24 carried by a supporting member 25 which has a threaded anchorage at 26 with an adjusting or threaded bolt 27 carried by the bracket 15.
adjusted within the casing to the desired position and the light bulb 13 may be adusted relatively thereof by threading in or out the adjusting bolt 2'7. This serves to move light bulb 13 with socket 18 upwardly or downwardly in the elongated opening 16 of the reflector, thereby positioning the light bulb as des'red. The spring21 has suflicient yield to permit the aforesaid adjustment,
but. is strong enough to prevent any shifting of the socket by reason of vibration.
The invention claimed is:
1. In a lamp the combination of a casing, a reflector therein having an elongated centrally positioned aperture, a light bulb support positioned therein, a strap positioned adjacent said reflector and having a rigid j connection with said light'bulb support for supporting the same in adjusted position in said aperture, a member simultaneously securing said reflector to the casing and adjustably but rigidly supporting one end of said strap, and yielding means connecting the opposite end of said strap to said reflector.
tion in said elongated opening, yielding ment between said strap and reflector for one end of said strap, adjusting means associated with said reflector and other end of said strap for securing relative movement between said strap and reflector for adjusting the position of said light bulb support.
In witness whereof, I my signature. As shown in Fig. 1, the reflector may be have hereunto ailixed SAMUEL w. I-IYATT.
