IMPROVEMENT IN HAT-BRUSHING MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,945, dated September 21, 1875; application filed September 4, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, SIMON P. SIVER and GEORGE H. SWORDS, of Fishkill Landing, in the county of Dutchess and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hat-Brushing Machine, of which the following is a specification:
Our invention consists of a conical hat-carrying roller and a conical revolving brush, arranged side by side to brush the hat between them, and contrived so that the brush can be swung away from the roller and back again readily, to facilitate the putting of the hatbody between them. Two rollers may he used, if necessary, for carrying the hat with greater certainty, the hat being carried between them; but one does very well with a little more care on the part of the attendant.
Figure l is partly a front elevation and partly a sectional elevation, the section being taken on line 90 00 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan View.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the conical hat-carrying roller, and B the conical revolving brush, which are arranged side by side on a stand, 0, the brush being attached so that it can swing on a pivot,
1, toward and from the roller, and having an elbow-lever, D, and connecting-rod E, suitably attached for shifting it readily. F represents the hat-body as it is placed on the roller to be dressed by the brush, and G represents another roller that may be used in connection with roller A for carrying the hat with greater certainty, by running it between the rollers, as indicated in Fig. 1. The brush and the roller will be driven by separate belts and revolved at different speeds, the brush being turned much faster than the roller, and in the opposite direction. Instead of having the brush to shift away from the roller for putting in the hat, the roller may be adjustably mounted and the brush stationary.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of a revolving conical brush, and one or more conical hat-carrying rollers, the brush or roller being arranged to shift toward and from the other, and having a bell-crank, D, and connecting-rod E for shifting it, substantially as specified.
