SLEEPING BAG.

This present invention relates to improvements in a sleeping bag and appertains par ticularly to one adaptedfor the use of 1nfants. y

The principal object of the invention 1s to provide a Warm sleeping bag or blanket that may completely envelope the body of the wearer affording Warmth and comfort and the desired extent of freedom.

A further object is to provide a body covering of this character that may be lined or stuil'ed With feathers or woollen filling to afl'ord greater protection from wind or cold.

A further object of my improved sleeping bag is to provide one wherein the tightness of the seal against the cold is readily adjustable to enable the rfree movement of the feet and legs, looseness about the body at the trunk or the unhampered freedom of the arms and shoulders, or all parts of the bag may be tightened to snugly enclose the user and exclude all draughts and cold.

A still further object of this invention is the provision of an improved sleeping bag characterized by simplicity of make and design, requiring but a minimum quantity of material, of light and compact form and capable of production at a reasonable cost the same being thereby rendered commercially desirable. y

To the accomplishment of these and related objects as may .become apparent, my invention resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

The invention Will be best understood and can be most clearly described, when reference is had to the drawings forming a part of this disclosure, vvherein` like characters designate like parts throughout the several views.

In the drawings:

The structural details of the invention will now be set forth in detail, particular reference being had to the drawings Wherein the numeral 3 designates the main square. or body of the device and is of rectangular form though preferably rounded as at 4 at the upper end. From the remote end 5,

the main flap or blanket 6 e.\'ten'ds,- being of the same piece of material though slightly reduced in width and of a length substantially equal to the main body 3 from the square end 5 up to the part where the are of the rounded end 4 commences.

0n either side of the main body 3, a plurality of side closing or sealing flaps 7 are provided, in the form illustrated` three of such flaps are used on each side.v These side flaps 7 are of triangular form, their bases 8 connecting to the adjoining edge of the body 3while their outer tapered ends 9 are free and adapted to extend over the body 3 after the main flap or blanket part (3 has been doubled into asuperposing position, the free pointed ends 9 reaching to fasten in pairs with the ends of the registering flaps 7 on the remote side of the body. The free ends 9 of the flaps 7 may connect in any approved manner, but preferably for infaut use, colourful tie bands or ribbons 10 are employed.

To provide the warmest possible blanket the bases 8 of the side flaps 7 will overlap"- Where they join the body 3 as shown clearly in the drawings; the inner ends of the bases of both the end side flaps on each side ex tending over Ithe base corners of the central Hap, as seen in both Figures 1 and 2', so that when tied in closed position the end side flaps substantially overlie the centre pair.

To increase the snugness and comfort of this sleeping bag, the body 3 with the end flap 6 is made of doublethickness to receive stuffing or a lling of feathers, Wool or the equivalent, with the main body part 3 stul'- ed a little fuller than the end fiap (i and separated therefrom by a seamed folding line 11 while the upper and rounded end 4 of the body 3 may be stuffed as a pillow and Separated' from the rest of the body by a dividing line 12, shown in the present embodiment' as comprising a plurality of spaced ties of ribbon 13 that pass through the two folds of the body and united together with the finishing strip 14.

The device is finished in a decorative way to increase its attractiveness, to which treatment it readily responds, for the remote end of the end flap 6, the two free sides of each of the six side flaps 7 and the rounded top 4 of the body 3 are all finishedwith a frill of lace 15 thus giving a touch of daintiness and beauty to the bag.

mainisection 3, is covered by the end fiap 6 and the several pairs of side flaps 7 tie across over this end ap just as tightly or loosely as desired to afford the de ee of freedom the `user Wishes, as hereto ore explained, and. in conclusion it ma be pointed out vthat this bag made of suita le material and in proper sizes and omitting the unnecessary decoration and frills is of exceedingly great use for camping or other outdoor sleeping.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be manifest that a sleeping bag is provided which will fulfill all the necessary requirements of such a device, but as many changes could be made in the above description and many apparently widely V'different embodiments of my invention constructed within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof` it is intended that all matters contained in the said accompanying specifica- ,tion and drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limited sense.-

Having thus described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A sleeping bag comprising a main body section, an end iap extending from an end thereof and adapted to be folded to overlie said main body section and fastening aps arranged in registering pairs on opposite sides of said main body section and adapted Lemiersto `extend over said end Hap when folded to secure the same.

2. A sleeping'bag comprising a main body section, an en flap extending from an end thereof and adapted to be folded to overlie said main body section and fastening aps arranged in registering pairs on opposite sides of said mam body section overlapping one another at the base where they connect with ,the said main body section.

3. A sleeping bag comprising a main body section, an end flap extending from an end thereof and adapted to be folded to overlie said main body section and three triangular shaped fastening flaps arranged on each side of saidmain body section; the pairs of side flaps at each end overlapping the ends of the central pair of side flaps where they connectwith the said main body section, whereby said end pairs of side flaps partially overlie said centre pair of side flaps when closed orl laced, substantially as described.

ll. A sleeping bag comprising a main body section of substantially rectangular form and rounded at one end; an end flap, extending from said body section remote from said rounded end, adapted to fold over said body section to superpose the same, excepting the said rounded end; and a plurality of side iaps carried by said body section on either side thereof in registering pairs.
