An object of this invention isito provide i a simple means in a liquid storage tank for locating the inlet ofa discharge or service pipe, relative to fiotationand sedimentatlon planes, or levels in thetank to the end that only substantially uncontaminated liquid willbe delivered to the service pipe; a
A further and more specific object is to provide, in a water storage tank, a device which is of simple and inexpens ve construc tion, and facile in installation forthe all0-. cation of the inlet end of a draw ofi pipe with respect to levels, or planes, in the tank subject to contamination by flotation and sedimentationso that only the water between such levels may be delivered.
A still further object is to provide a simple means for controlling the delivery of water from a. storage tank which w ll automatically act to prevent the delivery of contaminating matter of flotation.
A feature of this invention is a device, constructedgas a unit; which maybe 1nstalled with facility without requirement of alteration or change in present storage tanks and their pipings and which operates at all water levels in a tank, to deliver to service faucets, water uncontaminated by matters of sediment or flotation.
Other objects, advantages and features of invention may appear from the accompany ing drawing, the subjoined detailed description and the appended claims.
The accompanying drawing illustrates the invention.
Figure 1 shows in sectional elevation a. storage tank equipped with a draw off constructed in accordance with our invention.
Fig. 2 is an elevation, on an enlarged scale and partly in section, of the draw-off of our invention.
The tank 1 and supply pipe 2 are, or may be, of any ap roved conventional construction, and of t emselves, except as combined with our improvements, form no part of our invention.
As shown,the service pipe 3 pierces the bottom 4 of the tank and is secured in place as by clamp-nuts 5. Ordinarily the upper,
open end of the service pipe serves as outlet for the liquid content and is resident substantially in the plane of the bottom of the tank and in position to draw ofi the whole content of the tank and deliver for use, undesirable flotation matters, such as oils and greases, which are highly objectionable 1927. outlet from the tank, that is, the upper end of the service pipe, to ai plane, or level, above the bottom of the tank so that delivery of contaminating matter, from the sedimentationlevel indicated at A is prevented.
A bell 7 is positioned,to completely sur: round the upper, open end of the nipple 6, which constitutes the outlet of the tank, with its lower, open end occupying a plane below the plane of the upper end of the nipple 6. By preference the bell is provided with a spider 8 for connection with the nipple whereby the handling and installation, of thebell and nipple may be facilitated and whereby the bell will be held in proper relation to the nipple. i i i i The bell .7 forms withthe nipple 6 an intake passageway or point of communication 9, between ,theinterior of the tank and the opeinup ierend of the nipple 6, occupying a plane sufliciently below a level, designated the rim of which extends to a point outwardly, or laterally, from the nipple and in a plane substantially that of the lower end of the bell.
This arrangement of hell and guard in conjunction with the plane of the open, upper end of the service pipe, allows for the bringing of the flotation level B to maximum approximation to the SGdlIDBDtatlOII level A without danger of delivery of undesirable matter.
To overcome any tendency towards. siphoning action in the bell, creative of suction at the intake passageway 9 and making possible delivery of flotation matter, the. bell is vented as by a pipe 11 leading to the top of the tank.
The construction and arrangement of the parts just described provide for the installation of our draw-oil without alteration or change of any kind in the tank or its outlet.
