1 is the shaitwhich, by means or the cams 2, drives the liftingknives (not shown) of the dobby, andwhich carries at one end a bevel wheel 1, with which there meshes a bevel wheel '5 mounted 6 driven by the 'upper loom shaft in the ratio of 1: 1. Jpon the other end 10f the shaft 1 is fixedly mounted a spur wheel 7, with which a spur wheel 8, half as large in diameter, can mesh, which is mounted loose upon a stationary pivot 9 and is axiall slidable thereon. For the rotating and slidupon the pivot 9, there serves a hand-crank 10, which is screwed or cast-on to the wheel hub. In order to limit the sliding, the pivot 9 contains two v.peripheral grooves 11, in which a .pin 12 can engage, which is carried by a presser lever 13 subject to spring I pressure, supported upon the hub of the wheel. In a peripheral groove in the hub of the spur wheel 8 there is loosely mounted a rod 14;,svhich is bent at right angles at the bottom, directed parallel to the pivot 9 and guided in a bearing 30'and at theother end carries a link member 15. The latter is connected by a pin 16 with a bell-crank lever- 17 the other arm toothedfsector 18, which meshes with atoothed segment of a double lever 19 which is rotatable about a pivot '20. The other arm of the double lever 19 embraces with a fork a pin 21, which is located onone arm of a bell-crank lever 22, oscillating about a stationary pivot 23, the other arm 01": the bell-crank ing connected to a fork 24. Furthermore it is advantageous that the dobby can be actuated by hand by means of the same handcrank that serves for the opening and closing of the clutch.
In the above description it is assumed. that the dobby is driven from the upper loom shaft. .The drive may however be effected from the lower loom shaft. In this case the shaft 6 is driven in the ratio of 2:1 to the lower loom shaft, as the shaft 6 must revolve twice as fast as the lower loom shaft. Driving apparatus. of the kind described may be inserted between the shaft 6 and a shaft driving the latter instead of between the shafts 1 and 6, in which case the shafts 1 and 6 may be. in constant connection with one another. Hand and power driving device for pat tern mechanisms comprising a driving shaft, a shaft on the pattern mechanism, cams on said shaft for producing a reciprocating movement of pattern knives, gearing wheels on these shafts permanently meshing one with another, the gearing wheel on the driving shaft being loosely mounted thereon and provided with a clutching element, another clutching element axially slidable on the driving shaft but kept in constant radial relation thereto, said clutching elements being formed so as to enable their coupling only in the same relative radial position one with another as they assumed in the instant of unclutching, a second gear wheel rigidly connected with the shaft of the pattern mechanism, a mechanism connected with the slid- Y able clutching element-,a hand-crank and a members of a claw-clutch, a second bevel wheel which permanently meshes with said first bevel wheel and is mounted on the dobby shaft, a spur wheel fixed on this shaft, a
second spur wheel axially slidable upon its pivot, a hand-crank attached to this spur wheel, a rod gear connecting this second wheel with another member of the said clutch which member is axially slidable upon the driving shaft and rotating therewith, the breadth and axial travel of said second spur wheel being so dimensioned on the one hand in relation to the position and breadth of the co-acting wheel and on the other hand in relation to the length of the path of the slidable clutch member that, when the latter assumes the position which corresponds to the coin-- meneement of coupling, the two spur wheels are still in engagement with one another,
so that the other clutch member can be brought into the coupling position in case of need by rotating the hand-crank.

two clutch members mounted thereon, one of these members rotatably mounted thereon and in permanent connection with a shaft of the pattern mechanism, cams on said, shaft for producing a reciprocating movement of pattern knives. the other clutchmember being axially slidable on the driving shaft, a claw member fixedly mounted upon this driving shaft and in permanent engage ment with "the slidable clutch-member to prevent it from rotation relatively to the driving shaft, a pressure spring interposed between the said two members and tending to bring the slidable clutch-member into engagement with that, clutch-member which acts upon-the dobby-shaft, a fork engaging with the slidable clutch-member, a handcrank loosely and slidably mounted on its pivot, a bell-crank lever connected on one side with said fork and on the'other side with the hand-crank in such a way that by axial displacement of the latter the slidable clutch member can'be disengaged.

Hand and power driving device for pattern mechanisms, comprising a handcrank slidably and rotatably mounted on its pivot, a spur-wheel rigidly attached to this hand-crank, a spur wheel fixed on a shaft of the pattern mechanism in the path of the axial displacement of the first spur wheel and adapted to mesh therewith, cams on said shaft for producing a reciprocating movement of pattern knives, a claw-clutch on the power shaft with one claw on each of the coupling faces, one ofthe members of this clutch being in permanent engagement with the shaft of the pattern mechanism, the other clutch-member slidably mounted on its shaft, a rod and lever mechanism adapted to be operated by the hand-crank and connecting this slidable clutch-member with the spur wheel attached to the hand-(- *ank, the axial dimension of the clutclrclaws being in such relation to the axial displacement of the slidably mounted spur wheel, that this latter is out of engagement withthe other spur wheel when the clutch is fully closed, but in engagement when the claws are in position just to come out of or into engagement one with another.

Hand and power device for pattern mechanisms, comprising a power shaft on the loom, a shaft on the pattern mechanism. cams on this shaft for producing a reciproeating movement ofv pat-tern knives, a releasable clutch inserted between said two shafts, a pair of mutually engageable and dlsengageable transmission wheels, not in engagement one with another when the clutch is closechone thereof mounted on the cam supporting shaft, a hand crank rigidly con nected with the other of said transmission wheels and adapted to bring it in and out of engagementwith the other wheel by axial displacement, gearing members connecting said hand crank with a releasable part of said clutch in such a manner that the hand crank in disengaging the clutch by a sliding the bevel WlIGGl D'IOUDtQd thereon with the power shaft, a hand-crank slidably and rotatably mounted. on its pivot, and stationary when the clutch closed, a rodand gear device connecting this hand crank with a member of the claw' being arranged to rotate with the power shat't but slidable thereon in axial direction so as to allow it to be coupled with and releasedfrom the bevel wheel loosely mounted on the power shaft, a spur wheel rigidly connected with the hand crank, another spur wheel fixed on the dobby shaft and adapted to be cngagedby the first mentioned spur wheel by an axial displacement thereof,
clutch, this member I the arrangement being such that these two spur wheels are in engagement one with another at the moment where the claws on the clutch members are just in position to come into or out of engagement one with another.
