Description
mUNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE JOHN J. WEBER, OE ST. CLAIR, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN GAME APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,716, dated September 14, 1875; application filed June-17,1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JoHN JACOB WEBER, of St. Clair, State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Outdoor or Parlor Game, ot' which the following is a specication:
The object of my invention is to furnish a new, useful, and amusing game for outdoor or parlor use, which consists of a plate or base ot' metal or wood, as shown in Figure ,1, and a rubber ball with a metal handle screwed into it, as shown in Fig. 2. In Fig. 1 the plate or base may be made ot' any suitable material, either ot' metal or wood, though metal is preferable, and is pert'orated with holes oi' different sizes. The holes a, in Fig. 1, are slightly smaller than the rubber ball d in Fig. 2, and the holes c in Fig. 1 are slightly larger than the metal handle e in Fig. 2. The plate or base in Fig. 1 may be made of any size or shape, and the rubber ball and handle made to correspond to the size of the holes in the plate or base.' with a threaded and tapering end made so as to screw into the rubber ball, as in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 shows a sectional view of the rubber ball d and the metal handle e. Fig. 5 shows an end View of the plate or base shown in Fig. I. f f f are feet or legs, of av suitable size to support the plate or base, and raise it some distance from the ground or floor.
In using my invention for the purpose of play or amusement, the plate or base is placed on the ground or floor, and the players are supplied with the rubber balls having the metal handles fixed in them. The' game is played by throwing the rubber ball onto the Fig.l 3 shows the handle e;
center of the plate or basa-which, in Fig. 1, will be observed to have a blank space large enough to allow the ball to bounce or rebound. When the ball rebounds into the air the weight of the metal handle will turn the ball up, and it will fall with the handle downward. lt' the handle falls in any of' the holes the player is credited with the point or points at which that hole is marked or valued.
Any number of points may complete the game, at the will of the players.
It is well known that a rubber ball is no new toy, and has been in use t'or the purpose of amusement ever since the introduction of rubber; but my invention embraces the combination of a metal handle so attached to the ball as to place the center ot' gravity in such a position that the ball must fall with the handle downward. The number ot' balls or players may be increased or diminished at pleasure, and to distinguish the players or sides the balls may be made ot' various colors.
I claim as my invention-v 1. The'improved gaine apparatus herein scribed.
J. J. WEBER.
