Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTA VUS L. S. J'ENIFER, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMPOUNDS FOR SOAP.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,669, dated September 14, 1875; application filed August '23, 1675.
To all whom z'tmay concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAVUS L. S. JENI- FER, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, State of Ohio, have in invented an Improvement in Compounds for Soap, of which the following is a specification:
My invention has for its object to furnish, and consists in, an improved soap formed of the ingredients hereinafter mentioned;
In preparing my improved soap I combine with each other the following ingredients, boiling the same in any manner and in any of the vessels commonly used for that purpose: Into thirty-two gallons of water I introduce ten pounds of carbonate of soda, (sal soda thirty ounces of carbonate of ammonia; three ounces of borax three ounces of saltsof tartar; two ounces of common salt; and twelve pounds of a hard erasive soap hereinafter described.
I do not limit myself to the exact proportions stated, as they may be varied considercocoa or palm oil, twenty pounds; water, fourteen gallons.
This hard erasive soap is reduced to shavings or small pieces and introduced at the proper time into the first-named compound, and when the two are sufficiently commingled and united, so as to form a pasty mass, the product will be a soap possessing superior detersive qualities.
Any other hard soap which affords a sufficient base to hold the first-mentioned compound Will answer the purpose Well, since the essence of the invention lies in increasing the detergent qualities of hard soap of commerce.
What I claim, therefore, as of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The improved compound for soap, consisting of water, sal soda, carbonate of ammonia, borax, salts of tartar, common salt, and hard erasive soap, combined substantially in the proportions and as hereinbefore specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GUSTAV'US L. S. JENIFER.
