This invention relates to a `corner piece for buildings, and more .particularly ,the`
- corners at the junct-ion of the upright Walls and ceilings. The invention consists, broadly, of a metallic or bendable strip of such form and arrangement, thatit may be conveniently secured to the Wall and ceiling to provide screeds for plaster terminals and holder-ledgesl at or closely adjacent tok said corners.
One of the specific objects of the invention .is to provide a device which when applied, ivill reinforce these corners and Will prevent the'objectionable checking of the plaster at the junction of these parts, and Will effect a saving of time and labor rusually required in the Work at the junction of these parts.
Another object is to provide a metallic strip which includes a screed for the ceiling as Well as for the upright Wall as an aid in theJ operation of plastering and causing a correct appearance for the plaster terminals. Another object is to provide a combined screed and holder-ledge for the upright Walls, this ledge having a depression or groove for receiving the hooks for picture frames or the like, and operating as a substitute for the usual picture molding employed for hanging pictures. Still another object is to provide a device adapted to be applied to said corners to provide tWo plaster terminals adjacent to the junction of the Walls so that the operation of painting and paperhanging will be more convenient than ordinary.
lVith the foregoing objects in view the invention presents a novel and useful construction, combination and arrangement of parts as described herein and claimed, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein,-

Referring now to the drawing for a more is particular description, the invention shown and described in connection `With an upright Wall studding 3 and a horizontal ceiling j oist t of a building, lath generally used, also being shown.
In order that the objects of the invention, as first mentioned, may be attained I employ metallic strips which may have any suitable length or lengths for use at the junctions of the upright Walls and ceilings,
one of said strips being shown and indicated at 6.
The strip 6 is bent transversely to provide a Wing 7 adapted to be secured to the upright Wall, and providing a second Wing 8 adapted to be secured to the ceiling, any suitable means, such as keepers 9 being shown for thisjpurpose The Wing 7 is bent transversely near its medial line' to provide a combined holderledge l0 and screed 11, said ledge and screed being, disposed in the Wing S.
The ledge .l0 is formed asa groove or depression l2 for the purpose ofv receiving plane of the second f the hooks generally used for supporting pictures, and'in all respects they discharge the saine function as the strips of picture molding now generally use The screed 1l operates to define the terminal for the plaster 13 for the.- upright' Wall 3, and as is Well known, the screed determines the thickness of the plaster to be applied to said Wall.
The Wing 8 is bent transversely and outwardly to provide a screed 14 to lie outwardly of the plane of the Wing 7 and outwardly of the plane of the Wing 8. Both of the yWings 7 and 8 are provided With eX- panded and apertured borders or edge-portions as indicated at l5 to permit the plaster to enter the interstices and thereby providing a firm support for the plaster terminals. Numeral 16 indicates the plaster applied to the ceiling.

The holder-ledges, While performing all of v the functions of the picture moldings generally used Will not be visible, and this feature is considered to be of advantage for the reason that picture molding is obtrusive during the operation of paperhanging or painting the Walls and when supported by nails often deface the Walls and often are not adapted to support the Weight of heavy pictures and their frames. Also the provision in the present instance of a combined ledge and screed is considered to be an ad-` vantage sinceit permits the parts to be of compact form, and effects a saving in material.
It will be understood that the device may be used as a corner piece for brick buildings as Well as `frame, suitable anchor-blocks being inserted in the Walls to which the Wings of the strip may be secured, the
screeds and holder-ledges operating in all respects "the same as described.
It will be understood that changes in form, size, proportions and minorydetails may be made in producing the herein described corner piece, said changes being determined by the scope of the invention as claimed.
I claiin-as my invention,-
l. In aL corner-piece for the purposes described, a metallic strip bent to provide a horizontal Wing and a vertical Wing adjacent to the horizontal Wing, said vertical iving'being bentto provide a combinedholder-ledge and screed, the horizontal Wing being bent to provide a screed disposed for- Wardly of the plane of said holder-ledge.
2. In a corner-piece for the purposes described, a metallic strip bent to provide a horizontal Wing and a vertical Wing, the vertical Wingbeing bent to provide a combined holder-ledge and screed, the horizontal Wing being bent to provide a screed disposed outwardly of the plane of the holder-ledge, that part of the strip at the junction of said Wings bein-g bent at approximately rightangles to fit into the corner at the junction of an upright Wall and a ceiling.
3. In a corner piece for an upright Wall and ceiling, a metallic strip bent transversely at its medial lineto provide parts for engaging the Wall and ceiling at their junotion and thereby providing a Wing and a secondwing, said first named Wing being bent transversely to provide a combined` holder-ledge and screed for a mounting on said upright Wall, said second Wing beingy bent transversely to provide` a screed an having a part overhang the holder-ledge o the first named Wing.
