WATER-CLOSET SYSTEM.
Application filed November 8, 1923, Serial No. 673,571, and in Austria November 16, 1,922..
My invention relates to a water closet system, in which the water discharge device will be automatically actuated as soon as the closet seat or its equivalent being held normally in a lifted position will be released and lifted.
According to the present invention the seat which is held in a lifted position by means of a spring or the like acts when being lowered upon a hooked pawl, means being provided to shift said pawl into engagement with a hook connected to the water discharge device, so that when the seat is released the said spring moves the hooked pawl and the latter carries with it the said hook so that the water discharge device will be actuated, whereupon the hooked pawl will be disengaged from the hook.

Fig. 1 is a sectional elevation and shows the improved water closet system with automatic water discharge device. Fig. 2 is a vertical section and illustrates a preferred form of the automatic means for actuating the water discharge device. modification of said same.
In a casing 1, which is mounted preferably in the rear of the water closet, a bar 2 is arranged which is acted upon by a spring 3 and is rectilinearly guided by a cup shaped member at sliding upon the lower tubular portion 5 of the casing 1. The lower end of the bar 2 may be provided with a roller 6 and presses upon a rear arm 7 of the seat 8 so that the latter is normally held in a lifted position. as shown in Fig. 1. To the upper end of the bar 2 a hooked pawl 9 is hingedlyconnected, a spring 10 tending to movesaid pawl 9 towards the right- (Fig. 2) into engagement with a hooked member 11 being guided in the casing 1 and connected by a chain or cord 12 to the well known water discharge device (not shown).
The hooked operates with a guiding piece 1-1 being fixed in the casing 1.
The operation is as follows.
If the seat 8 be lowered the arm 7 lifts the bar 2 and the pawl 9, so that the spring 10 causes said pawl to engage the hooked member 11, at the same time the spring 3 will be tensioned by the cup shaped member 4 being moved along with the bar 2.
If the seat 8 be released the spring 3 lowers the arm 7 thereby lifting the seat 8 Fig. 3 shows asaid seat normally in pawl 9 has a lug 13 which co-- again; the pawl 9 being in engagement with the-hook 11 carries the latter with it, so
that the chain or cord 12 actuates the water discharge device. Finally the lug 13 engages the sloping face of the guiding piece 141, so that the pawl 9 will be disengaged from the hooked member 11.
The seat 8 may be substantially balanced by a counter weight 15 fixed on the arm 7.
In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the hooked pawl 9 has a pin 16 travelling in, a cam or guide groove 17 of the guiding piece. The operation is similar to that of the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
What I claim is:
1. in a water closet system a seat, a mem ber rigidly secured to the seat, resilient means acting on said member to maintain said seat normally in a lifted position, a hooked pawl arranged to be moved both by the said member and the said resilient means, a hooked member connected to the water discharge pipe and arranged to be engaged by the hooked pawl, a fixed guide providing a slot, the said hooked pawl engaging said guide slot, the said slot being arranged to bring the said hooked pawl and hooked member positively into and. out of engagement.
2. In a water closet system a seat, a member rigidly secured to the seat, resilient means acting on said member to maintain a lifted position, a hooked pawl arranged to be moved both by the said seat member and the said resilient means, a hooked member. connected to the water discharge pipe and arranged to be en gaged by the hooked pawl, resilient means tending to maintain the hooked pawl in engaged position and means for releasing said hooked pawl in the last portion of its movement along with the hooked member, a barto which the hooked pawl is hingedly connected, a casing which encloses the hooked member, the hooked pawl and the bar is composed of a fixed portion and of a movable portion, to which said bar is connected, said movable portion being in contact with said seat member and cooperating therewith. said releasing means consisting of a projection of the hooked pawl and a fixed projection at v the inner wall of said casing, said projection being provided at its free end with a cam-like guiding path. v
