ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES vPATENT OFFICEo THOMAS MAGUIRE, OF PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN PUMP-VALVES.
v Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,550, dated September 7, 1875; application filed July 24, 1875.
To all whom it may concern v Be it known that I, THOMAS MAGUIRE, of Port Jervis, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Pump-Valves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part'of this specification, and to the letters and tgures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation oi a central vertical section of my pump-valve, and Figs. 2 and 3 are plan views of the same.
This invention has relation to check-valves for pumps; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the valve-ch amber, having a central tubular valve-seat and a surrounding drip-box,a protecting strainer, and top section, as .hereinafter fully shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indica-tes the valve-chamber, consisting of a casting, having an external cylindrical wall, B, and an innereoncentric tube, C, connected to the wall B at the bottom of the latter, and extended to form a coupling, as shown at D. Between the tube and the wall B is the dripchamber E, provided at its lower portion with a discharge-opening, F, and plug G. H represents the valve, which is designed to be of rubber. It is seated upon the top K of the tube C, and is kept in place by the ribs L connecting the upper portion of the central tube to the Wall B. M designates an arched guard placed above the valve-chamber, and bolted or otherwise secured thereto. The central portion of this guard is solid, and provided with a projection or stop, N, which limits the upward movement of the valve. Around the central portion of the guard is a circular series of perforations, P, arranged above the cylindrical drip-chamber B, so that whatever sediment falls from the cavity above the strainer will be received into said drip-chamber, whence it may be drawn oft' through the spout F. Above the arched strainer-guard is located a chamber, R, from which extends upward a tubular coupling-section.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The valve, substantially as described, having the external wall B and central tube C, connected at their upper ends by the ribs L, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS MAGUIRE. Witnesses:
