UNITED STATES WILLIAM F. BROCKETT, OF DODGE CITY, KANSAS.
PILE REMEDY.
No Drawing. Application filed November- This invention has as its object to provide a highly eflicient remedy for piles, and one possessing marked astringent and antiseptic properties.
Another object of the invention is to provide a remedy for piles, the chief ingredient of which is a natural product and may, therefore, be obtained at a low cost.
I have discovered that a natural volcanic ash is of such chemical composition as to afford immediate relief when used as a remedy for piles, and the ash which I have employed consists of the following substances in the proportions stated:
In preparing this ash so that it may be conveniently used, I prepare a petroleum jelly containing 2% of carbolic acid and 1% of potassium permanganate and intimately incorporate with a selected quantity of the volcanic ash, a sufficient quantity of the vehicle to produce a medium soft salve, the ingredients being thoroughly mixed until the product is of uniform consistency.
The salve is applied as in the case of any other salve and it has been found that, due

chiefly to the antiseptic and astringent qualities of the ash and the antiseptic and healing qualities of the carbolic acid and potassium permanganate, instant relief will follow the application of the salve.
It may be added that the volcanic ash used in the preparation of my salve is obtained from mines six miles south-west of Satana, Kansas, one and one-half miles east of Anthony,Kansa's, and two miles north of VVillmore, Kansas. I
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is: v
1. A remedy for piles comprising a mixture of a volcanic ashcontaining a relatively large percentage of silicic oxide, aluminum oxide and sodium oxide, and petroleum jelly in quantity sufiicientto produce a salve and which jelly contains carbolic acid two percent and potassium permanganate one percent. a
2. A remedy for piles comprising a mixture of a volcanic ash having substantially the composition :silicic oxide sixty-eight percent, aluminum oxide fifteen percent, sodium oxide twelve percent, potassium oxide one percent, iron 0.25 percent, calcium two percent, manganese 0.7 5 percent, and magnesium one percent, with a vehicle comprising petroleum elly ninety-seven percent, carbolic acid two percent, and potassium permanganate one percent, the vehicle being in proportion to produce a salve.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
WILLIAM F. BROCKETT.
