OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, 1%.SSIGNOR T0 ECONOMY PRODUCTS CORPORATION, A CORPORATION OF CALIFORNIA,
MEANS FOR FASTENING WIRE FOR STUCCO.
Original application filed October 2, 1925, Seria1 l\l'0. 59,991. Divided and this application filed April 3,
1926. Serial No. 99,651.
My invention relates to a new and improved means for fastening wire for stucco, and has among its sallent ob ects to provide a spacing member which is formed from a.
flat piece of metal folded and formed. into a nail receiving article and adapted to occupy a position on said nail between the head of the nail and the wall or support into which said nail is driven, with the wire or folded ready to receive a nail, also shown;'
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the formed spacing member with nail in place therein; and Figure 4; is another similar View of the completed article.
Referring in detail to the drawings, said piece of metal is designated, 6, and is stamped.
out of a sheet of metal wit-h a hole, 7, punched therein, and with the recesses, 8, 8, formed in its opposite ends, as'illustratcd. 1n the formation of the spacing device, a nail, 9, is nextplaced through the hole, 7, and the opposite ends are folded upwardly in the manner indicated in Fig. 2, and thereafter the device is iormed by suitable dies, not shown, into the device shown in Figs. 3 and 4, having the fiat bearing or base portion, 10, the cylindrical portion, 11, through which the nail, 9, is held with the projecting web like portions at opposite sides thereof, as clearly illustrated. The two recesses, 8, 8, are adapted to receive a wire therein at either side of the nail, 9, and when said nail is driven into the support its head bridges said recesses and holds said wire (not shown) in place in said recesses, and spaced from the wall or support, in a manner well understood. Thus I have provided a very strong and efficient spacing member adapted to be placed upon a nail in its formation, with the point of the nail projecting sufficiently therefrom to be started into a support, and held frictionally on said nail, and
through which'said nail can be driven until.
poses, realizing that changes can be made therein without departing from the real spirit of the. invent-ion, but what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A wire attaching device including in combination with a nail, a spacing member formed of folded metal folded into T-form in end View, the stem portion being formed with a cylindrical middle portion to receive said-nail, the T-portion forming abearing foot adapted to bear against the support into which said nail is to be driven and the opposite end of the stem portion having a recess to receive wire, said recess being adapted to be bridged the head of said nail when said nail is driven through said spacing member.
2. A nail, a lath supporting section dis posed in a plane extending through said nail and having an intermediate portion bent around one side thereof, a lath supporting section disposed in a plane through said nail and having an intermediate portion bent around the opposite side of said nail, said sections integrally connected together at their lower edges on opposite sides of said nail.
3. A wire fastener comprising, a spacing clement formed of an oblong strip of sheet metal folded together longitudinally, thereby forming a pair of lath supporting sections of substantially equal lengths inte-' said lath supporting section being folded uponitself in planes at right angles to the extending a plane of the lath supporting section and having a hole through said foldedportion for the point of said nail.
5. In combination with a, nail, a spacing 5 device formed by folding a strip of flat metal upon itself for at part of its length ,with. an upwardly ,;projeoting end standing:
in a plane at right. angles to the plane of the folded portion, said upwardly projecting end having a notch in its upper edge to he 10 bridged by the head of said nail, and av hole through the lower folded part for: said nail.
Signed at Los Angeles', Los Angeles County, California, this 12 day of March, 1926. o
