NELSON S. WELK, ATI-II'ENS, OIIIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE 11CBEE BINDER (10., OF A'IHENS, OI-IIO, A COR:"ORATIN OF 0HIO.
FILINGr TRAY.
This invention reiates to en improvernent in fiiig tmys simiim t0 thnt diseiosed in 1113. co-pending npplication.- Serial Number 90.475 fiieci Feb. 25, 1928.
The 0bject the present invention is the provision 01 R suitable support rol (het type 01? demping plate disciosed in. the above-mentioned appiieatisn.
The purpose of the device t0 proviciei rigid support for the clamping plate, thnt is independentiy supported, without beiti1ig er otherwise attaching to the front Wai of. the tray.
It has been found that fl ciamping piste i1aving direct support upon the front WLii 0f the tray tends, when in eia1nping positi0n, t0 distort sueh fr0nt WIH, and espe cial1y in that type of tray disclosed herewith.
It is therefore the object of this imention t0 provicie 21 support for the demping p1ate whieh Wi1l av0id any possibility of dist0rtien er undue pressure en the r0nt wel1 of the tray.
A urther object is the simplicity of 0011 struction of this support, and its mede ef assernb1y within the tray.
ther important eb 'ects ind tdvantages 0 the invention w11 be apparent during the eourse of the fei1oWing deseription, referenee being had te the accompanying drawings, wherein iike numerals are empioyed t0 designste like psrcs thmughout.
Referring t0 the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a filiing tray embodying the invention,
Fig. 2 is 2.1- perspective view of a damp ing piste end its ass0ciated supportremeved from the tray,
Fig. 3 is 21 ragmentary. "ertieai section throngh the forwerd end of the tray, :md
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the support for the clsmpng piste with 2". portion f the guide track, removed from the tray.
Referring specificzrlly to the drawings the numeral 10 designates the fr0nt Wlii of the trzw., 11 the side W1i and 12 the resr Waii.
'1he walis, 10, 11. and 12, are forrneci from the numerai 26.
the upper edges and pr0jecting slightly be yend the front end resr wa11s 10 and 12. A bottmn 15 is suitably rigidly attached to the sde zuid end walls 10,11 and 12. The opposite side of the tray is '0rmed open and is normaiiy closeci by {L swinging door, designated as a whoie by the numeral 16.
The structure of the door 16 has been fuliy cisclosed in my appiication nbove identified. The ends 10 and 12, adjacent sueh opening are further reinorced by vertical corner posts 17, weided 01 otherwise attached themhsndle 18 and en open card-pocket 19.
The mnnerai 20 designates a substantially U+1epe l tar'i or gg uide, e::tenriin longi- The 'ront end 10 is provided with a appiicetion.
The nu1neral 21 designates {L clamping p1ate, h1ngedly mounted {LS at 25 to a sup pert1ng member, des1gnztted as a Who1e by The member 26 is 0rmed ingr with respect to the piste 27.

plate 24, ancl tl1is strip l1as inturnecl emls '37 for l1niting: the swinging movement of the lever 3, m e1tl1er (l1reet1on. Tl1e lever 34 is provided with an L-shaped pivot member 38, carrying a pivot pin 39. A corresponding pivot pin 40 is earriecl by the flangre 29an lthese pins 39 and 40 receive arigicl link 41, tl1e openings 4of Wl1lCl1 are suffieiently large trrenable suel1 link to partake of slight rertieal 1noven1ent, while swinging in a horizontalplane. tlue to the swinging of the lever 34 about its pirot. It will. tl1us l e seen that movement of the lever in the rlireetion of tlie arrow, (Fig. 2) Will result in the plate being 1noverl forwardly or to the release position, as shown in dotted lines, (Fig. 3)., Movement of tl1e lever in the opposite lireeti m will result; in tl1eplate bein moreel ;to the elampin e position, and when in sueh position, the link 41 will have 1]10.VCtl to a pastcenter position, consequently, tl1e plate Q4 will be retained in elan1ping position, against accidental. release by the,
pressure of the eards.
'll1e operation of the device is as follows: Assuming, that the tray eontans liled 1natter such as eardsand that the parts are in the position illustratecl in Fig. 1. It is now rlesired;to inspect the earrls, and to make this possible, tl1e lever 34 is swung over to the left tl1ereby releasinr the elamping plate. 24. The follower plate 23 is tl1en releasecl and moxed rearwardly. It is now possible to inspeet; the eards, as allpressure has been relievecl therefro1n.
It \Vlll be obvious from the foregoing description tl1at an extremely si1nple and sub stantial support has been provided for the elamping plate 2t. As has heretoiore been noted, there is a great tendeuey towarcl the distortion of the front wall of the tray, due prineipally to the attaclnnent of the support directly to,sucl1 wall. Consequently, wl1en tl10 plate was plaeed in eompression position, tl1is pressure was imparted to the front wall of the tray, and the degree of suelrpressure was determine(l by the adjustment of the follower plate 23 by the operator. The distortiou of the front wall of the tray was particularly notieeable in the present type of tray, enborlying tl1e drop side, and Where the operator plaeed tl1e plate in elamping position priorto the closine of thedrop side, it becarne diflicult t0 close such side, for the reason that the front wall of the tray had become tlistorted, and out of. alignment witl1 eertain engaging parts carried by the si le. The support of the present invention is formed of stifl sheet metal, rigdly braced and supported entirely by the track 20. The
method of engagement with the track fianges makes the asse1nbly extremely simple, anrl enables tl1e support to be placed in various sizerl trays without the neeessity of bolting or welding tl1o same to tl1e track.
1t is to be understood that the invention is not li1nitecl to the precse eonstruetion set 1"ortlibut that it ineludefi wilhin its purview whatever ehanges l'airly eo1ue witl1in etl1er the terms or the spirit of tlie appended claims.
