Application filed July 27,
This invention relates to a detachable heel, and its object is to provide an article of this character having means to secure the same, when in position on a shoe, and to permit of its easy and quick removal for replacement, or other purposes.
' Other ob 'ects, are neatness of appearance and efliciency and durability in service.
Theuniversal practice of wearing rubber,
or cushion heels, has created the necessity for different means for their attachment than that which is commonly employed in heels of all leather construction, but these means have for the most part consisted of a metln d of permanent fixation, that is, the heels are usually so affixed as to be removable only by a complete disruption and tearing oil from the body of the shoe.
This device, by a novel mechanical construction, makes it possible to remove the heel by the mere throwing of a lever and a slight sliding motion of the cushion element. It is thus an easy and simple matter to remove a worn cushion element and replace it with a new one whenever desired.
The device will be found fully described in the following specification and claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows a shoe illustrating the appearance of the heel as attached thereto.
Fig. 2 shows a top plan view of the upper, or permanent heel with the cushion element partly slid out from its under side, it being in the first position of the process of attachment, and with the locking lever open.
Fig. 3 shows a section on the line 3-30f Figure 2. I
Fig. 4 shows the heel with the. cushion element in its final position and the lever thrown over to lock same.
Fig. 5 show-s a section on the line 5 5 of Figure 4.
Fig. 6 shows a section on the line 6--6 of Figure 4.
Fig. 7 shows another form of the invention having a slidable stop member mount ed on the locking lever.
Fig. 8 shows a section on the line S8 of Figure 7.
Referring first to Figure 1, the heel 10' having a base element 11 and a cushion element 12, is shown attached to a shoe of conventional design 13. Referring now to Figure 2 especially, and to Figure 3 in conjunction therewith, the device comprises the base element 11 to which is secured the plate 14: by means of the screws as seen at 15, 16 etc., which are driven upward into the "said base element'asseen best in Figure 6. Still referring to Figures 2 and 8, lock slots as seen at 17, 18 etc, and which are in shape, large apertures with narrow extensions therefrom, are locatednear to the outer margin of the plate.
A locking lever 20 is pivotally secured to the plate as shown at 21. This is provided with a hook member 22. A V opening 23 in the plate permits of the swing of the lever. The said plate and lever are preferably of metal. 7 I i The cushion element 12, which is preferably of. rubber or like resilient material, is provided with button studs which may be also of metal. These are seen best in figure 3 at 25 and 26.
hen it is desired to attach the cushion element, it ishplaced over the base so that the button studs penetrate the lock slots through the larger portions thereof, the lever being open as seen in Figure 2. The cushion element is then slid forward so that the stud heads engage the slot extensions and the said element is in its final position, the lever is then thrown over as illustrated in Figure 4:5Lnd its hook member engages the rear stud and securely locks the whole.
In the form of theinvention shown in Figures 7 and 8, additional hooks 28 and 29 I are provided and a slidable stop element 30 is mounted on the shank of. the lever 20. This stop element, when in its forward position as illustrated, rides up on the plate extension 31 and engages a recess 32 in the cushion element as seen in Figure 8. The
I claim as new and desire to secure by Let:
ters Patent, is as follows:
A detachable heel for shoes comprising a base portion havmg a recess therein, a plate mounted on said base portion disposed over u said recess having key hole apertures therein, said key hole apertures each comprising an enlarged rearward portion and a con stricted forward portion, a resilient heel member mounted on said plate, headed studs on said resilient heel portion each adapted to be disposed through the enlarged rearward Fortion of one of said keyhole apertures, a ever disposed in said recess and pivotally attached to said plate comprising a hooked extremity adapted to engage one of said ed portion of that keyhole aperture into which it extends after the resilient heel member has been moved forwardly, and locking mechanism comprising a bracket slidably mounted on said lever adapted to be engaged in a recess in said resilient heel member for retaining said leverin a=predetermined position. studs for retaining the samein the'e'onstrict- In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature. JOSEPH HEGEDUS.
