Patented June 12, 1928.
UNITED STATES WALTER REAL, OF HANOVER,
PAPER-FILING DEVICE.
Application filed August 15, 1924, Serial No. 732,214, and in Germany August 20, 1923.
My invention relates to paper filing devices and more particularly to devices of the kind described which comprise resilient holding bows and are used for document files, portfolios and the like in which perforated sheets are filed.
A document file is provided with two identical parts of resilient material, for instance wire. The parts are set some distance apart in the file and each is made from a single wire bent twice to the shape of the letter U. A clip is thus obtained which comprises a horizontal base portion and two vertical reaches. on of the reaches being bow-shaped. the other being loop-shaped, and a hook at the end of the bow-shaped reach adapted to engage the loop-shaped reach when the clip is closed. In order-to open the clip. the hook is disengaged from the crossbar of the loop-shaped reach, the perforated documents or the like which it is intended to file are placed on the loopshaped reach and the hook is reinserted in the loop.
My improved device may be so constructed as to be used in an upright position as well as to be laid flat.
In the drawings aflixed to this specification and forming part thereof devices embodying my invention are illustrated diagrammatically by way of example.
In the drawings Figs. 1 and 2 are an elevation and an end view. respectively, of one construction showing the device closed,
Figs. 3-and 4 are similar illustrations showing it open,
Figs. 5 and 6 are an elevation and a plan view, respectively, of a modified construction.
Referring first to Figs. 1 to 4;, the device is bent from wire as shown. Its base portion comprises horizontal reaches 7) and 0 extending coaxially with each other from which extend vertical reaches a and d. The reach a is bent into U-shape to form a sort of pin 7 on which the documents to be filed are placed with their perforations, said pin being loop-shaped and adapted to receive a hook e at the end of the other vertical reach cl which is bow-shaped at its upper end.
Instead of being in a straight line, the base b. c and the vertical reaches a, d are kinked into U-shaped holders so as to afford a more secure seating of the device in the body 71 of a document file or the like. The seating may be further improved by arranging the holes in which the devices are held in the body 2' a longer or shorter distance apart than the vertical arms of the device. By inserting the devices from the rear after'releasing the books 6, the devices are firmly held by their own resiliency and the kinks 70 will not be readily detached from the body.
I wish it to be understood that I do not desire to be limited to the exact details of construction shownand described, for obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. 1
I claim:
1. Paper-filing clip formed from a single piece of resilient wire,- comprising ahorizontal base portion, bow-shaped and loopshaped vertical reaches extending upwardly from said base portion, and a hook at the end. of said bow-shaped reach adapted to engage said l0op-shaped reach.
2. Paper-filing clip formed from a single piece of resilient wire, comprising a horizontal base portion, bow-shaped and loopshaped vertical reaches extending upwardly from said base portion, substantially U- shaped' kinks where said vertical reaches adjoin said base portion, and a hook at the end of said bow-shaped reach adapted to engage said loop-shaped reach.
3. Paper-filing clip formed from a single piece of resilient wire, comprising a horizontal base portion. bow-shaped and loopshaped vertical reaches extending upwardly from said base portion, a hook at the end of said bow-shaped reach adapted to engage said loop-shaped reach, and supporting brackets integral with said base portion and. extending transversely from said reaches.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
WALTER REAL.
