DOOR'AND SASH STICKING MACHINE.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in wood working machines, and particularly to sash and door stickers.
It is well known that in cutting the sticking of door and window sashes, the various members of a door or sash are sometimes warped or bowed longitudinally, andthat the sticking machine will cut the sticking,
along the curved edges to the required depth, with the result that the door or sash member is still bowed, and cannot be used. In correcting this error in the door or sashmem} ber, the ordinary woodworker runs the member through a planer or jointer, to cut the N edges of the member straight and inparallel relation to each other, after which the member is run through the sticker.
It is the principal object of the present invention to provide a machine wherein the door or sash member, which is bowed, is
straightened up and cut with the required sticking, at the same operation.
In stickers now in use, the-door or sash member is run throughthe machine on its edge, thus requiring that the operator prepare the member for thisoperation, by running it through a planer or jointer.
Another object of the present invention to provide a machine wherein the door or sash member is run through the machine on its wider flat face, thereby permitting, a cut-v ting action on the edge faces of the member, to straightenthe member, as well as to produce the sticking thereon.
Another object is to provide a machine of this characterwherein cutters and guides are arranged to be moved toward and away from eachother for action upon the opposite edge faces of. a door or sash member," to produce parallel side edges, and at the same time to produce the sticking on said edges.
Briefly, the invention comprises a stationary frame or bed, on which is mounted. a
transversely slidable, and adjustable member or bed. Onthe stationarybase there is mounted a feeding meansand a cutter,while a similar feeding means, and a similar cutter are mounted ontliemovable bed, suitable guiding means being carried by the beds, whereby upon transverse movement of the movable bed, the cutter thereof will be brought toward and away from thecutter,

Referring particularly to the accompanying drawings, 10 represents the stationary portion or bed ofthe frame of the machine, which has, at one end, the cut out portlon 1.1. The vertical wall of the cut out .portion 11 is formed with a rib 12, which extends transversely of the frame, while the bottom 'wall has a; parallel pair of similar ribs 13. The upper portion of the elevated end of the stationary frame or bed 10, at one side thereof, is cut out transversely of said portion, as shown at 14 and 15, to receive sprocket wheel 16 extends transversely of the machine, and to asuitable distance beyond the remote sidethereof, where it is supported by the bracket arm 20, mounted on the side of the bed portion 10. On this end of the shaft 19, outwardly of the bracket arrnZO, are mounted the sprocket wheels 21. and 22.

Mounted in advance of the cutter 59 is a chip breaker 7 5, while a similar chip breaker 76 is mounted adjacent and in advance of the cutter 55. The breaker 76 is, however, connected with the advanced end of the rear guiding fence 77, which is adjusta-bly mounted on the table 43, at one end, and on the upper portion of the bed 10, at its other end. A second guiding fence 7 8 is mounted on the bed 10, beyond the cutter 55, and is arranged to engage with the edge of the sticking out by the cutter 55. It will be noted that the fence 77 is set outwardly of the line of the fence 78, such distance being equal to the distance between the portion of the edge of the door member which engages with this fence, and the nearest line M thereto. At the other side of the bed 10, at the same elevation as that of the fence 78, is a guiding fence 79,

If sticking is to be made on both of the edges of the member 73, the cutter 59 is re laced by one of the desired outline.
Vhile I have described the present invention as particularly applicable to sticking, I wish it understood that the machine is readily adapted for glue jointing such members as table tops, or any built up members desired. The particular feature of the pres ent machine being that both edge faces of a piece of work may be treated in such manner as to provide for perfectly fitting joints, whereas in devices heretofore one edge was treated, thus requiring the reversal of the work to treat the other face. The machine is also capable of forming sticking on one or both edges of a door or sash member.
What is claimed is:
1. A machine of the class described comprising a stationary member having an elevated portion at one end and a depressed portion at the other end, transverse rails on the said depressed end portion, a second base member slidably mounted on the said rails, a cutter on the elevated portion, a cutter on the second base member, a Work guide on the said elevated portion extending into proximity to the second cutter, means for simultaneously driving the cutters, and work guiding means between the base members driven by the cutter driving means and ar ranged in parallel relation to said rails.
2. A machine of the class described comprising a stationary member having an ele vated end and a depressed end, a cutter on the said elevated end, a member transversely adjustable on the said depressed end, a cutter Onthe adjustable member, a work guide mounted on the said depressed end and extending transversely of the adjustable member and into proximity to the first cutter, and a work guide mounted on said elevated end and extending into proximity to the second cutter and in parallel relation to the first work guide.
3. A machine of the class described comprising a stationary member, a member ad justable transversely on the stationary member, a cutter on the stationary member, a cutter on the adjustable member, a work guide associated with the first cutter and extending transversely of the path of the adjustable member, a work guiding means associated with the second cutter and extending across the stationary me1nber,'and adjustable with said cutter, superimposed rollers disposed transversely on the stationary member adjacent the adjustable member between which the work is guided, and
means for simultaneously driving the cutters and one of said guiding rollers.
